I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if it is required to go through the school nurse certificate program in order to work as a school nurse in Illinois? If not, what sort of requirements are there? Additionally, are there any other programs offered beside the one at the U of I Chicago?
Thank you for any info.!

School districts in Illinois may hire R.N.'s but they can not carry the title of school nurse unless they have a Type 73 certificate. They are called health aides. In order to obtain the Type 73 certificate you must complete a school nurse certificate program. I did mine through National Lewis University. Judy Feigen was the contact person at the time. However, I don't know if she is still with the university. She was wonderful to work with. Hope this helps.
