i have a vera temp and a braun tympanic. i tend to use the vera temp more - i call it my malingerer buster. Those kids loooove having their temperatures taken
I could never get anything about 95 with these thermometers.

Welch Allyn Sure Temp is the one I have used for years. As for placement, I just show them the picture on the probe covers. Tell the little ones, don't bite it, kiss it. Then I hum and they do too and then it is over :) Quick and accurate.

Welch Allyn Sure Temp. I inherited it with my office along with thousands of probe covers. This is my 5th year here and I am not even close to ordering more probe covers. I am a big fan of the W-AST. I also have a VeraScan but I don't trust it. I used both for a while when I first got my VeraScan and I was getting 1-2 degree temp differences. I keep it because it's better than nothing with my special needs kiddos.

I inherited one as well and it broke during my first year - I think the folks before me didn't take the best care of it (I tried to fix it for a while as well, I hated getting rid of it). I would love another one, but the investment is a very large part of my budget I haven't been able to spare just yet.

I really like my VeraTemp touchless thermometer! No issues with accuracy and it's fast.

We use the Braun Tympanic, Braun is the consumer division of Welch-Allyn. We also have an Exergen temporal scanner from the pre-nurse days. Inaccurate by 2 degrees. Wonder how many students suffered before we were here.

I ditched my Exergen for that same reason! 2 degrees off, always, sometimes up, sometimes down, but always 2 degrees

We went from Welch Allen electronic oral thermometers (which worked reasonably well) to the Braun tympanics probably about ten years ago. Not been a problem.
I did have an old mercury in my office at the previous school, but I don't know what happened to it (may still be there) when I switched to the high school. There are some frequent flyers I'd like the threaten with a rectal :)
