Confidence Boost Needed!

After almost 3 decades in pharmaceuticals as a manager, I graduated 2012 and received my RN in May 2013. New grads around here are persona non-grata in acute care (blah blah I know you've all heard this before). So, I went right back to school and finished my BSN in June 2014. I start Rutgers tomorrow for my CSN (all of these are require to work FT in a school here). In the meantime I worked for 8 months part time at a LTC/Subacute facility, left there and also am subbing as a SN in my local school (all grade levels) - this will be year 2 as a sub SN.

If you've read this far, thank you! My plan is to try to replace a local SN who is retiring next June. I worry about my lack of acute care experience. I truly love working with the children and also want to positively impact curriculum, policy, and conduct research if possible. Your thoughts and comments are most welcome!!

Sub as often as you can, especially in the school you are hoping to get a job in. Also hook up with some School Nurses who would consider mentoring you. You will need this as a new School Nurse.

I went straight into school nursing from nursing school. I did work in education in a non-nursing role for almost 7 years prior, so that might have helped, but I don't feel behind the curve. I am constantly learning and my state has great training available that I have been able to take advantage of. I subbed first before landing a full-time position. And now I am helping out another nurse in my district as she transitions from adult oncology to school nursing. If I can do it...
