I had a second-grade girl with a history of migraines come in today and complain that she was, "...hearing colors and seeing sounds!"

this is not entirely unusual with migraines...

Just yesterday a little boy came in "hyperventilating" because the boy next to him kept farting and the stink made him hypervetilate

I had a little guy bump his head the other day. He told me he "saw stuff" and when I asked what he saw he replied with "you know, like birds and stars!"

I have had my share of migranes but have never SEEN sounds. I guess that is why the OP found the statement strange. I however do not get an aura for my migraines.

I've seen sounds during migraines...kind of like nonspecific visual distortions. Sound has unfortunately been a major trigger for my migraines since age 7. Never heard any colors though.

I occasionally get an aura but more often than not I'm just smacked with the pain.

But with migraines, one's mileage may vary.

Never mind ... Not school nursing

That makes sense to me now.

My mom didn't get the aura either. My triggers aren't sound, but lack of or too much caffine, and stress. Stress is the biggest. I don't get them near as often now. Sometimes they are hormonal as well. Noise and light are horrible for me when I do have a migraine.

Teenage boy walks in and says "my nose hurts when I do this" and proceeds to basically hit himself in the nose. Response? "Don't do that and go back to class."

I asked a pt. (with dementia) "Are you feeling confused today?" Should've seen the eyebrows rise from family and staff ... yikes !! (background info: he was having blood sugar issues) ... Funniest thing is, he answered "No, Nancy" ... (ha ha , his sister is Nancy and she passed last year).

It's called synesthesia. I know people can be affected with it and others experience this under the influence of psychedelics such as LSD or mescaline.

I get migraines with aura but when the aura develops, I see colors; I don't hear, taste or smell them. Doesn't mean it's not impossible, I suppose.

I had a kindergartener come in and say, "I bumped my leg when I was 3 years old." I told him that I think it is probably OK by now. :)

PS: I get migraines with aura (visual). *sigh* Migraines are brutal... They are the only thing that will absolutely knock me on my rear end.
