Hi I have just qualified as an offshore medic having previously worked as a nurse since 1991, I will be working on offshore oil installations or support ships, and am wondering if anyone else out there has any experience of this type of work. I will be working on my own, but with medical backup onshore. I will be dealing with everything from athletes foot to major trauma, for up 130 people. Any advice or suggestions from those of you who work remotely would be appreciated.:nurse:

Hi, I am interested in this type of nursing. I currently work in a level 1 trauma center in Ohio. I have been an RN since 1991 as well. Do you know any company that is hiring? I keep running into dead ends. Thank you for your help.

Hi John, sorry not to have replied sooner, but have been working nights. I live in the UK, so things are a little different in the North Sea than the GOM. From what I am hearing, it is mainly paramedics that are hired offshore in the US. If you try http://www.frontiermedical.co.uk, I think that they are advertising for US offshore medics and also flight medics as well. They may be able to tell you if it is only paramedics they hire in the US. If you want a list of companies who may be able to find you a job try http://www.winterhrbour.net/offshore. You will probably need an offshore survival certificate and probably a medical certificate as well. Although it is a British site, try http://www.rigmedics.co.uk They will give you a lot of imformation about the job and offer a lot of good info about the how to go about it. You should join the site, as there are more forums available to you, including a jobs board. Of course, there is not only jobs on rigs, but on boats as well, also there are remote medics, and there are rigs/boats based all over the world, not just the GOM. Hope this helps. thank you for the information. i am still very interested in this type of work but have been unable to locate a company that actually has the openings. i just keep running into companies that are middlemen for these positions and most of them want fees or some sort of compensation on the candidate side. i have never trusted companies that operate that way. i guess i will stick with my er job for now; it is interesting but would like something with a little more adventure. john
