What is a good new cna pay rate?

by ss2brn

Hi everyone,

I am a brand spanking new CNA, I just passed my skills test this October 2. I have applied at many nursing home but have gotten no reply from any of them. Today I walked into a nursing home to apply for a CNA position, and right away I was given an on the spot interview. I was offered a job at the 50 bed LTC facility. I accepted the position of course, after getting no response from anyone else. I was offered $11.00 per hour to work 3rd shift and every other weekend. With no shift or weekend differential pay, paid medical and dental after 3 months, and paid vacation time. I toured the facility and liked it very much.

My question is did I get offered a fair amount of money for being a brand new cna working the 3rd shift?

I'm not sure I'd say it was fantastic pay rate but its not bad. I work for a hospital and I started at $13.39 but $11 isnt' bad. My biggest question that I would have asked before accepting a position on the spot (especially when the interview was offered the second you walked in) is about the CNA to patient ration (the third shift will probably have the highest number of patients to available staff) and you should ask about the nurse to patient ratio to figure out how many nurses you may have available to help you. Its great that you got a position and I hope it works out for you just keep in mind that on the spot interviews and hiring isn't always a great sign. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks Chris for responding to my question. I've been so busy, running around trying to get all my medical papers in. In response to your question, I was told that there will be 3 CNAs on each side, and there'll be 2 nurses working in the building at night. I was working in retail for years, and it felt great to give my boss my 2 week notice. I am so happy and nervous at the same time. I'm finally going to start my journey in the medical field. Wish me luck!
