Random Question: Phlebotomy Training?

by MrsPeep

I know this is sort of off topic, but as I wait to apply to nursing school I'd like to take a phlebotomy course in addtion to a CNA course. I know CCRI offers one, but it also is a two semester application only type of course. I'm looking for something that would be a bit shorter in duration. Thanks in advance for any help!

I was in the Phlebotomy program at CCRI (a great program I might add) but if you just want to learn phlebotomy to add to your CNA certification your going to have a hard time finding a class (they don't really work like CNA classes do.) My best suggestion if you really want to learn phlebotomy without having do the CCRI class then you should take your CNA class and work for one of the Lifespan Hospitals (I work at Rhode Island Hospital and its great) and as a CNA at a Lifespan hospital you are trained to be a CNA II which includes doing EKGs and phlebotomy. Other then that your going to have a hard time finding a class that will train you in just phlebotomy in a really short time. Good luck!

Thanks for the response! The red cross in Worcester, Mass offers a four week course with a 100 hour externship, but it's sort of a hike for me, so I was hoping RI would do something similar. Thanks for the info about Lifespan! I hear it's hard to get in there, but I'm going to try after I get through the CNA class. Thanks again!

If your a nursing student in college right now and your looking for a CNA position its a lot easier to get a position at Lifespan. Once your done with your CNA class and your ready to find a job at Lifespan just let me know, I have the name and number of a person who can help get you in but I can't post it on here so PM me when your done with class.

I agree with Chris... I also work at Lifespan. I have to say though that when i started working here I got NO training to draw blood. It was here's the needle and go for it... I love that part of my job but I still wish I had the phlebotomy class as a background and more knowledge. Good luck in the CNA class.. it's tough and hard core. I had 4 hours of homework a night but it was well worth it... when you go into take your state test your are 100% prepared after that class.

Hey NKARA, if you don't mind me asking what do you do in Lifespan now and where do you work? RI Hospital? Miriam? Newport Hospital?

Thats really cool, I work in the Co-Op building but I'm looking to transfer to Hasbro myself, I'd really like the Hasbro ED.

You can do an eleven week Phlebotomy training at URI. It's not through URI however... go to 911programs.com for contact info. They are starting another course in fall.
