In first semester you are assigned to a clinical professor and either group A (thurs) or group B (fri), you don't get to choose. I was in group B so I had clinical on Friday, which meant I had to pick up my assignment on thursday (after 1230) and I had wednesday off. If you are in group A then you get your assignment on wednesday, have clinical thursday, then have friday off. Obviously most people would prefer group A so they can have a 3 day weekend, so that is why they don't let you choose. Either way, you do get the whole day off which is good. And the day you pick up your assignment is a pretty easy day too because you are only spending an hour (or more or less depending on the situation) getting the assignment and you can get it at any time of the day after 1230. I don't remember the schedule that well, but I know there are labs and other things thrown in here and there on certain weeks and there are certain weeks you won't have clinical at all.

Don't sweat the book review at all. Follow the guidelines exactly as they tell you, and make sure you follow APA style. Basically just give a brief overview of the book (I'm assuming it is still a Mitch Albom book) and then just critique his style, give negatives and positives, etc...you know, the same boring stuff you did in high school. I think everyone got As.

And ya that is probably me that your sister was talking to. I just started working there and a lot of my coworkers are in nursing school or trying to get in. Does your sister work on the children's unit on evenings? I think that is who mentioned their sister was going to St. Joes but it could be someone else.

Let me know and I will see you in a few weeks...hope you are ready!

Hey Nicole. The summer flew by for me, I hope yours has been fun. But I'm not dreading going back to school at all, it should be a good experience this year. Still need to buy all those books though. See ya in a couple weeks.

And ya small world Jill...I mean it is Rhode Island and all but still, small world.

Thanks NSalvadore, it's nice to know that there are some helpful people....I'm excited and nervous...can't wait to see what's in store..I think it's funny that you say "most" of us love it...I hear that's it hard work and no slacking off allowed but I have never heard a negative thing about a graduate nurse so I know the hard work will pay off in the end. Hopefully! LOL

Thanks

You have a good attitude!! I think you really have to go into it ready to work your butt off.. Also, know that they have good reason for all the tedious work they throw at you!!

Let me tell you out of a class of 30 that just graduated 27 of us have passed the nclex the first time and three of the class still need to take it.
I feel strongly that ST Joes gives you the best foundation for nursing any where else. you graduate knowing a lot. more than any other school in the new england area that i know of. and you will get opportunities there that you will never get at any other school such as hands on icu experience instead of an observation day, for the intire semester. it is an increadable experience. i miss it already. Im going to miss not starting school again this AUGUST and the three years will fly by.
TAKE CARE ALL THAT ARE GOING BACK. Be kind to the instructors and they will treat you with the utmost respect. THEY ARE THE best.
well take care and GOD BLESS YOU ALL IN YOUR FUTURE CAREERS.
