Thanks so much for all the info Josh.
Sounds like I *might* be able to keep my job the first semester, depending on the clinical schedule I get. I am praying for early mornings. Basically what I earn pays for day care...no day care, no school. UGHGHGHG the stress!!! I'm gonna just take it semester by semester I guess!

I'm taking A&P I and nutrition right now at BCC in Fall River, and in the summer I'm taking A&P II, ethics and dosage calc. So I'll be done with all the non-nursing stuff except for micro by the time I get there, thankfully. I do have to clep basic psych and soc since I took them over 7 years ago, which I think is silly since they took my developmental psych, but it's better than not getting in! I can't wait to get started. Cruzer and I have been going back and forth kinda freaking out about schedules lol.

Good luck on your exams. I hope you do GREAT!

Well, like I said, you might be able to switch your lab time if you're lucky and possibly switch your clinical day too if you really need either thursday or friday off. But the school has a policy where they don't care about your job or other obligations, you need to technically be available 8-4 Mon-Fri as the schedule dictates, but trust me it isn't as crazy as it seems.

I took AP I & II at BCC too, as well as Intro psych and Developmental psych. Looks like you'll have a busy summer but it is good that you are getting that out of the way. The nutrition class you're taking won't count for St. Joes though, did someone tell you otherwise? If you're just taking it to help you in the future, then that is great.

Good luck in your classes!

Wow I wasn't aware of that, everyone in my class took Nutrition together. Maybe it is a new thing, I'll have to look at my handbook when I get home.

Geez, it looks like you will have a pretty calm first semester!

Thanks for all the info, "Creamyitalian". It's really helpful to have an "idea" of what's in store.....I had another question if you don't mind? It says that we start in August, is it more towards the end of august or the beginning? Also I should get the CPR done before it starts, right? I'm sure we will learn all this at orientation but I am curious. Thanks for your help.

It was the last week of August for us. You can do CPR before school starts or during the first few weeks. I took it at Fatima Hospital the second week of school, it was a pretty short class, no biggie. If you take it elsewhere, make sure it is an American Heart Association approved HEALTHCARE PROVIDER course. If the card doesn't say AHA and Healthcare Provider, the school will not accept it. You'll also need to show proof of health insurance so you should bring your card to orientation.

Hope that helps, good luck!

Im graduating from St Joes in a few weeks and I absolutly love the school. I think it is one of the best nursing schools in the new england area. you will know more than any other nurse grad from other schools and you will do things that other grads will not get the opportunity to do.
It is the best school. I will miss it

Thanks Nurse2009, That's nice to hear. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! I always hear wonderful things about the graduates from St. Joes. I've heard that the experience as well as the overall performance of a St. Joes grad is wonderful. I have a friend who is a nurse and she did not go to St. Joes but CCRI. She said she can always tell when she has worked with grads from St. joes because they are so "put together" and know their stuff! I can't wait to get started!

I really appreciate all the information on this post. I just started my pre-req's at CCRI but I'm taking my time on them. I work full time nights at Hasbro so I don't have the luxury sleep. But I was going back and forth in my mind wether to apply to St Joe's or stick with CCRI's nursing program. Looks like when the time comes I will apply to St Joes.

Default Which group is better A or B?
Hey Josh,

I appreciate all the questions you've answered for me so far. I hope you don't mind but I have another.....LOL....

I was wondering about the clinicals and lab on WED, TH, Fri......judging by the schedule, it seems that clinical group A will not have school on Friday? Is that the case for group B as well, would group B have Wednesdays off? I guess what I'm asking, Is there one group that is better to be in as far as a day off? And how do they decide the groups you're in? I know the Lab times are lottery style, is the groups as well? I am just hoping they don't do alphabetical order for many things because I am the last one on the roster...LOL.
Also, the book review.....they don't want a report of it but more of a opinion-based review? I have the guidelines given by the school and it seems that the purpose of the whole review is for them to see how well I can read, comprehend, interpret and communicate information accurately and critically? How I view people in certain situations? Or am I just thinking way to hard about what they want?! LOL! I should shut up and write the damn thing already!!
Also you mentioned being 1 of only 2 males at the school and ironically my sister who works at a nearby "hospital" told me she worked with a guy who was finishing up his first year at St joes and she was asking him all sorts of questions (she is a CCRI nursing student). Wonder if it was you??..that would be really coincidental!! Small world...

Thanks again for your help.
