No whats bad is that ccri misleads individuals and you wait around to get into a nursing program as long as some people do unless you are the perfect little angel with that perfect 4.0 average oh wait you still dont get in.
im just keeping it real. Dont put your eggs all in one basket. URI, RIC and STjoes all have great nursing programs too. If you can not get in at CCRI try somewere else.
Just because you work there does not count for anything.
And Yes CCRI has some great nursing instructors and some really crappy ones to.

Just wanted to pop in and encourage those who are trying to get into nursing programs. Please don't listen to anyone trying to bring you down---if you want to be a nurse, then keep pushing for it. I do, however, think CCRI is a bit disorganized, and that everyone should look at all of the options around them (not just one school).

I took Anatomy and Human Development at CCRI in 2006, and transferred to RIC for Spring '07. I am now in my 3rd year of the nursing program at RIC and will be graduating with a BSN next May. I did not have a 4.0 or perfect grades....I have good grades (3.32 overall) and I work hard. The program here is also very competitive (90 students accepted for Fall and 60 for Spring) but I kept plugging away, got accepted, and am learning a whole lot about what nursing really is. I am proud to be a RIC student nurse.

If you want CCRI's program...then stick with it and don't back down until you get in. That is my attitude in life...to never let anyone tell me I can't do something. Sorry this all sounds like a corny pep talk but I really can't stand when other nurses are not encouraging to their future colleagues.

Keep working hard, and when you think it will never happen, you'll be pleasantly surprised... and even that much more grateful when it DOES happen.

Good luck to all! You can do it!

I just wanted to add my 2 cents to the on-going conversation.

I have been told in person by 2 admissions officers, at 2 different campuses, that
there is indeed no longer a wait list at least at their respective campuses.
They have not been able to fill all the spots for next Spring, which is why they
have added yet another application period. One officer told me that they only
got 5 applications for the day program and 10 applications for the evening program
during the May-June application period.

I myself do not have a 4.0 and have gotten a verbal acceptance
for the Spring 2010 day program.

I hope it is true for you and your fellow upcoming and future nursing students....and I do not eat my young or nursing students...but I know for a fact of people that are still on the waiting list. for Lincoln and warwick. day and evening...
I was on the waiting list since lets see spring of 2005 or 2006 and just got my call to join for this last spring... I already graduated and got my licence. that is a long wait. I know they do not do the official wait list which is a shame in way... because for those that have maybe a 3.0 or less they are almost out of luck to get in to nursing school...
Just because you get a C or B in anatomy and physiology does not mean you are going to do poorly in nursing classes so don't let any of the instructors tell you that.
I made a C in both and did completely fine in my nursing classes. Of course now you have to make a B or better.

If you don't get in there than try some of the other places. there are scholarships out there as well as grants and loans.

What The ?#$%.. Re: Additional Application Period at CCRI
Im glad you found it funny...when you are studding hard in those really hard nursing classes and you are feeling a little stressed out you can come back and look at this and have a nice LOL. And believe me you will have those moments. Even the best students are stressed but its not a reason to give up just remember that when you think you should.

Just remember this.

I know Im not God and never presented my self as him. I never made the impression that I was prefect ether so I dont know were you are coming off that way. If you know anything about the economy now you would know there are a lot of RN's that are out of work do to hiring freezes and such. I hope you and everyone else never have to go through that stress when you are ready to join the work force.
If I was God I would make it that my husband was home and not off in Iraq fighting a war that seems it would never end. That my kids would be happy all the time instead of stressed and heart broken over there father being gone.
And I even would wish that you were in the nursing career that you are dreaming and working on.
