I've been out for quite sometime almost 19 years, I was able to reactivate my license in Ohio by taking online CE's but I currently live in GA and they refuse to let me take a refresher course and say I must take the whole program over and at 59 years old facing 2-3 year waiting lists, and no funds that's not an option. My goal is to sell my place and move to Ohio to work for a while. I would like to take additional education and I'm looking for suggestions on any programs out there.

I'd like to hear from LPN's who have taken on-line refreshers, did they feel they were adequate? Did you take a combo on-line and clinicals?

I'm in the process of writing a letter to the Governor since the GA BON for LPN's is appointed by him and he is responsible for their obstructionist attitude amoung other things. From my research it appears GA is the only state that requires LPN's to re-take the whole program. Nor with the GA BON provide me with a list of approved in-state or out of state refresher programs.

So please I'd, love to hear from you and your experience.

I am a re-entry LPN after 25 years! I live in fl. I had to reactivate my NY license by taking on line ceu's like you did that was the easy part! I was able to find an online refresher course and even though i wasn't sure how it would work i decided to take it well....... it was an awesome course everything came back to me wek by week , system by system i would highly recomend it i can give you the name of the course if you would like. I also took 100 houurs of clinical instruction that was a huge confidence buider, this was part of the course i took. upon completion i submited the paper work and the $ to fl bon and 21 days later i had my fl license in my hand. now comes the hard part finding a job! i have sent ou hundreds of resume s, also had my son help me to write a cover letter explaining my absence and the determination i had to get back in the field. i know most employers look at me as anew grad and that is ok i know with patience the right oppourtunity will come along. Go for it you won't be sorry and if i can be of any help please let me know. good luck, God bless and happy holidays!

I wasnt out that long but there is an in class refresher at Cleveland state university that I took. There were lots of nurses out forever like you and it really helps with confidence. you will get clinicals and now that i am working I highly recommend it.

Hi Folks ,

I am glad I found some others in the same boat I'm in. I am also from Ohio ,on Inactive for many years and recently got the "bug" to go back to work.

I am seriously outdated and need lots of schooling to be up to par .

I have completed plenty of CEU's already ,but need Pharmacology . Try finding that class anyplace in the area !

I finally found it online through the NAPNES group, and in Ohio as long as you take a course in it, show proof that you did, then pass the test, you are in, so that is what my first step will be, then I need to concentrate on refresher classes next.

The Ohio Board has some listed on their website, although if my understanding is correct, you aren't REQUIRED to take one, it is up to you. I would definitely need one .

It's good to know there are others out there in the same situation I am in .

Good luck to all of you and best wishes in your search for education, and your new career .

You can apply to a refresher in another state that has clinicals. You can go to that state, apply for temporary permit and do clinicals there. Then, apply for permanent license in that state then, endorsement in home state. Longer process but, best for some people. I see nurses do that often here in Texas that are in Georgia and in California where they have few refresher programs with clinicals. Look at the Nurse Refresher portion on this site, or advancefornurses.com or google nurse refreshers and clinicals. I know several here in Texas if you want you can contact me through the e-mail portion of this site.

I'm aware of the out of state re-freshers but they are way way out of my price range at this time. GA also would want at least 500 hours of work in the state where you get your license but thanks for your reply.

I'm hoping someone will respond who has taken one here in GA.
