Alternative Modalities of Treatment vs. Chemically-Prepared Drugs

Greetings!

..I will be undergoing a research for a thesis.. this will dwell on the problem of what is the extent of public's use as to modalities of treatment.. I hope I could ask your help to set up parameters with selecting a modality..
..if you will be the consumer, what things will you consider on when to use alternative modalities of treatment instead of chemically-prepared drugs?
..or will you only choose one?
..will you patronize both?
..for what indications will you prefer either or both?
..hope i can get replies.. Thank you!

..sorry for the informal request..
