For your unit / floor / facility, who gives the patient baths/showers?

On our unit, nursing has the responsibility to give baths, so the PCAs (CNAs) do the majority, and the LPNs and RNs give others or help with baths. OT gives a rare bath, but it's not their responsibility.

I'm just curious to see what others do. Thank you.

I worked on a Rehab unit for about 6 months. It was the responsiblity of the nurses to get the baths so yeah that fell on the CNAs, usually at night on this particular unit. OT did give the occasional shower, but they did "dry runs" the patient was not wet and had their clothes on....waste of time if you ask me....what does that teach the patient? I mean seriously?

At my workplace, the CNAs give all baths and showers.

I work on a rehab unit with up to 15 pts.Night nurse have 5 pts where we do all cares toileting, all meds,IVs, dressing changes, vs, colostomy, tube feedings, no tech so there is really no time for showers. We can have 6-7 pts if we have a tech. We wash people up if they need it but ot/pt does some showers and day shift will do some if they have time. We do the best we can.

Our inpatient rehab department can hold up to 12 patient's and we work together with OT to get the bathing done in the morning. We have little cards that we have been using in the bathrooms of the patient's rooms that tells nursing staff if they are getting a shower the next morning, a sponge bath with OT, or if CNA's need to do the care. Works pretty slick if you ask me. But usually the cares fall onto CNA's or RN's, depending.

I wish I could say my nurse gave baths/showers. My techs give showers every evening. All patients get a shower every other day. OT gives probably 2-3 showers out of the group. I typically average 30 patients on a daily basis. I have been trying to highly encourage my nurses to gives showers also.....but it's not working so well. I have actually had a nurse say 'that is tech work and (she) will never do a shower'. No wonder we cant get accurate FIM scores--- the nurses have the techs doing all the work.
