West Coast University BSN to MSN

by jdsp87

I've just recently visited the West Coast University campus in Anaheim to attend their general BSN program. I was mostly concerned if that BSN would be able to transfer to Cal State Fullerton so I could get my MSN in Anesthesia. The gentleman at the information session said with confidence that it would transfer to Cal State Fullerton "for sure, definitely." But after reading the forums here, I guess I received the wrong information. Could a representative from West Coast University or Cal State Fullerton clear this up for me please?

Also [my back-up plan] I was planning to get the BSN/RN at West Coast Univeristy and, if worse comes to worse, just transfer to an RN-to-BSN program at a Cal State and go to MSN Anesthesia from there. Could someone please clarify that this is possible? And please don't respond, "Why would you waste so much money there just to transfer to an RN-to-BSN program?!" It is because I would only have to spend 2 years there (with my transferred classes) and I qualify for financial aid. =) Thank you very much everyone for reading!

I was interested in the same thing; so I called the Cal State Los Angeles Nursing Program and spoke with the graduate advisor who informed me that a BSN program had to be accredited by either the NLN or the CCNE in order for a student to eventually be considered for entry into one of their master's program. However, West Coast University is accredited by neither organization, so I had to rule out that program since I plan to go on for my master's in nursing.

Thank you for that info! I will keep my eye on their website! I wonder why their salesperson didn't mention their application to the CCNE to me when I brought it up??

I am in your shoes too. But I enrolled into WCU and in my second term. I called CSUF before I enrolled to make sure and the clerk said that they do take WCU's BSN for the MSN Anesthesia program. I heard it was the only one in the area that takes WCUs current accreditation other than university of Phoenix etc. I will contact CSUF again to find out for certain. Probably will stop in the next week or so and will keep you posted as well.

Good Luck =D

I don't know. They just did the visit in the past couple of weeks and will probably announce it in the next few months after they get the results from CCNE and go through formalities and such. The results aren't instant you know.

Thank you SoCalNursingStudent for your reply. Just an update for everyone, there are Cal States that DO take WCU degrees for entrance into Cal State Master programs! One of which is Cal Poly Pomona. So don't let anyone talk down to you if you are interested in going to West Coast. Tell them to stop being ignorant. hahaha

Still no official word yet for the CCNE accreditation but I decided to withdraw from WCU for a multitude of reasons.
