I am interested in nursing but I don't know what all of the different titles mean!

I have recently become interested in nursing but I don't know how to go about getting started. I want to do a quick program to get experience quickly, but I don't know which I should do because I don't know what the different nurse titles mean. Is it quicker to become an RN than to get a BSN or is that the same thing? I already have a BS with pre-med emphasis that I completed in 2006 and I needed time to figure out if I really wanted to get into healthcare. I know I do now, so I need some help. Thanks.

An RN program can be 2 years for an Associate degree or 4 years for a BSN. Some places offer an accelerated BSN program for students who currently have a BS degree (length of time in program would be dependent on the specific program). An LPN is typically a one year course and their duties and responsibilities differ from the RN depending on the facility/state etc. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Since you already have a BS, you can look into accelerated BSN programs that are designed for those who have a bachelor's in a non-nursing field. I graduated from one of those programs and it was 15 months (not including prerequisites like A&P and micro, which you may already have). To find specific programs, you might consider posting your question under the forum for your state.
