Are you having difficulty finding work?

I have 17 years experience in sub acute/LTC, also experience in some hospice and home care.....I am a seasoned RN and have try diligently to get work anywhere in NJ...is this just me or is this a pattern around the country???? thanks for your input guys.

It has been so hard for me to find a job also!

I lost my job this past September and ended up applying everywhere and anywhere until November 1st, when a LTCF hired me on the spot, with barely an interview... I worked there until just this past week, and have been hired in to work in dialysis.

It as far and few between for calls and interviews... believe that. So thankful I start my new job this coming Monday. :yes:

since I moved back to NJ from Vermont in November and had to reapply for my inactive NJ license, its been a virtual nightmare......to anyone that moves out of NJ and you plan on coming back...MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR LICENSE ACTIVE until you are absolutely positively sure you arent going to stay put in another state!!!!! THE WAIT for to get an INACTIVE RN license in NJ is absolutely ridiculous...its preventing me from working!!!!!!!! I have piddly non nursing jobs now and the Processing of an inactive license takes up to 8 weeks!!!!! Even though they have all your information, they make you wait this long anyway.!!!!! ITS ABSURD!!! You cant even do this online...but yet you can get a NEW LICENSE ONLINE......what a system!!!! I may have to move out of my house because I cannot find a job and pay the next months rent now.....I would love to sue the Board for this nonsense.......with all this technology, you think this would go alot faster.

I am applying in the Dallas market and can't find a job. It's very upsetting. I have my BSN and RNC certification, 11 years experience. I got a call today about one job, and it ended up being a phone screening interview. He commented on where I lived in proximation to where the job is located (I'm probably about 40 miles north of the job). He acted like where I lived was unacceptable. Stated, "Well that's going to be a problem." I thought *I* was the one applying for the job, so perhaps recruiters need to let ME decide what's too far for me to get to. It had me thinking that I'm not getting call backs due to where I live. The ironic thing is....my house is on the market!!! I'm moving further south, closer to Dallas. Man, if they all only knew. But they never do, because it sounds like I'm being automatically ruled out because of my distance. I was shocked at this revelation today!

Yes, it sucks, I am in rural area and moving back towards the city, as soon as my oldest graduates, and put on my boots and get back to it. Been depressed for a while over whole situation. I will give it one more go and then I am either gonna make it as a nurse or go back to administrative/computer. So I hear you. :)

I have heard of this happening so many times. Employers don't know people's situations and they should not be making decisions for you regarding whether the traveling distance is too far. I would suggest getting a PO Box near the location you are seeking employment and put that address on your applications or use someone else's address.

No offers except possibly PRN infusion work, but they are really slow...I am not getting this: They had me sign an offer letter, then told me to go to their website to complete the initial corporate training (HIPPA, etc.) which took several hours, then said you will be 'invited' to attend office orientation. What does that mean...'invited' to attend? I thought an offer letter meant I was hired?

Just a nice way of saying they will schedule you for orientation once you complete the online training.

I know this is an older thread, but I can definitely relate. I have yrs. of nursing experience, including recent experience in Assisted Living, and teaching PCA/HHA classes in a Licensed agency. Older experience includes Med/Surg, Home Health, School nursing, Psych nursing.

Where I live now in NC, I have a better chance of being hit by lightening than finding a new job. I am not happy where i work (per diem job), but for 2 yrs. have had no success finding something new. 2-3 interviews from maybe 20 applications. Nothing has materialized.

Recent fiasco, a state run agency tells me they're looking for a per diem nurse. I interview, she says she'd "love to have me" and she'll call me in a few weeks. Didn't hear anything so I followed up 3 weeks later and she says they're not hiring! It wasn't a job advertised; just an independent inquiry of a place I'd like to work. Why not tell the applicant it is a possible job/opening?? I was dumbfounded! I am beyond frustrated w/ it all.

I am in the same boat. Been applying to try and get into a pediatric setting for 7 years now, no luck, despite multiple applications everywhere. I was thinking about moving, but after reading all your posts I may not bother.

I am considering giving up on nursing all together and going the PA route!

Re: The Walking Dead Nurse's post--I've seen this, too! Why not hire the most qualified person, not someone based on where they live?!! I've traveled for jobs and schools up to 45 minutes, sometimes more. If it's not a problem for the person, why make it a problem??! Just another way to put a ridiculous requirement on a job that has little bearing on doing the actual job. They must sit around and dream these things up.In some areas of the country(large metro areas or rural areas) people routinely drive an hour or more--no other way to get to work short of flying!
