Re: IVR follow-up
I have no direct experience, but some suggestions.
* phone area hospitals that have a busy IR and see what they do for f/u; if they have a nurse doing the calls, how did they create the position, etc.
* Talk with your Manager (Tech? RN? Chief Radiologist?) about the $$$ and logistics of creating such a position. It may need to go through several hoops before receiving approval (subject, as always, to funding/budget).
* Second point (above) requires you write up a detailed proposal:
*what will be the duties (you will have to document how many cases/week or month, the range of questions to be asked -- which would then segue into why an RN must do the calling, i.e., in order to ferret out important information),
*estimate how much time each call may take, and how the calls will be documented (can Insurances be billed for this?? THAT may be an important issue; will need billing codes).
*Also, and very important: HOW WILL THIS HELP THE PATIENTS/ IMPROVE PATIENT CARE and OUTCOMES???
This is just off the top of my head, and hopefully others will respond and expand.
(Does ARNA have any guidelines? Just a thought)
Good luck!
