hello,
I am new to this site as of five minuets ago, however i have been reading posts and surfing this site for a couple of months now. I graduated a year ago with a degree in public relations, and although everyone says get a job in your field and go to school later i instead want to go ahead and get everything done. My overall goal is get my master's in public health and then get an associates degree in nursing. As far as my master's degree is concerned i have a daughter in kindergarten who is hearing impaired and due to the fact that i have been in school since the time she was born i have been struggling to spend enough time with her like i want to.i feel that i have been a bad mother and not as involved with getting through her disability as i should. ( Oh i am also a single mother). So i guess my question is would it be better to go to a college in my city or just get my master's online, and then go to school for nursing. That way i will have more time to commit to my daughter. I am interested in working in the non-profit organization arena or in public health departments. If anyone can give me some advice i would truely appreciate it. I've heard about capella university but a lot of people have not, has anyone attended that school? or has done a mph program online? if so how is it and what schools are accrediated? Also what would be the best way to accomplish my goals in an reasonable amount of time?

Hello, I am new to the site and I saw that you were looking for an online school in Public Health. I don't know if I am late or what but TUI University has a great one. I am currently in the MSHS in Public Health right now and I think it is wonderful (except for epidemiology). At TUI University I do work full time and do 12-14 hour work days when I do work and still manage to complete class work. It is solely online, which for me is great. I hope this helps some.

I don't know if my suggestion is suited to you. I am not trying to do a plug for my university. But as I have just about to finish my MPH here in Australia - I thought you might be interested that you can do this degree online anywhere in the world. We have alot of Canadians & American students who I believe can only do the Masters degree in International Public Health - however you will probably be able to downpack it in a year. The dollar will be better for you as it is stronger than than the Aussie dollar at the moment. Consider that you are likely to have a bit more of an edge seeing you have a degree in another International country - you will have to do your homework and see if its the best choice for you....I suggest you check out the website.. www.sph.uq.edu.au - ( school of population health is under the University of Queensland located in Brisbane, Australia).

UNC Chapel Hill (NC) has a great public health program, but I do not know if it is online or not.

Just be careful to check to see if the program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). I was also looking at Walden until I asked if it was accrediated and it is not. Some MPH positions required a degree from an accredited school. Also, why pay so much money if its not?

Note the time of initial accreditation, and the conclusion of the current accreditation term (in parentheses).
