I've Figured IT Out!

After playing with tons of ideas on what I want to be when I grow up... er, when I graduate nursing school next May, I have finally figured it out.

I was watching the news with my husband and a story came on about children who were victims of sex trafficking, and how they didn't have a home. The state is funding a project where a HUGE house is going to be built so these kids can relearn what it means to be alive; there will be psychologists, doctors, and NURSES to help show them what love it.

I started crying. I knew in my heart, right at that moment, what I wanted to do.

I've been doing research into the topic of community health nursing. I still don't know that much about it, but I know that in a great capacity, I want to help MY community, MY children other victims achieve greatness regardless of SES or how they've grown up.

Is that community nursing? I'm finishing my ASN in May of next year and going straight into the RN-MSN program being offered at a school in close proximity to me. They offer ANP and FNP; which would be best?

If this isn't what community nursing is, maybe you lovely people could point me in the right direction, or the MODS could place this in a more appropriate place.

Thanks in advance; sorry so long.

May I suggest working before going right into msn program. Community health nursing is a lot of things as is nursing in general. Just a heads up, not to be a downer, but it can be tough. It's challenging and can take a toll on your personal life. But, as you may already know, it can be very rewarding. Good luck.

I also have a great interest in this field and am curious as to where to get started. I will be finishing the lpn to RN bridge program in January and currently work in corrections. Any feedback would be great!
