I am hoping for a quick research of the various ways that state laws handle people who have committed a crime. Ie: Calif. has a "Not guilty by reason of insanity", and the person is turned over to psychiatry for treatment and released when better. Ore. has "Guilty except for insanity", leaving them in a pseudo-legal agency, the Psychiatric Security Review board, who are the final arbiters of limits of care, not psychiatrists. What do other states do? How do folks get managed in your area?
