I believe that is the approx salary for our techs here in the midwest. Couldn't do the job without them.

I worked as a mental health tech while in nursing school. I was paid a base rate of $10/h plus shift differentials. I worked in geriatric psych, so I spent a lot of time assisting pt.'s with basic care needs as well as reorienting and redirecting them. I was responsible for charting mini mental status exams, interventions and outcomes. RNs were responsible for charting assessments. I also performed checks on pt.s based on precautions(suicide, elopement, close, etc). I released restraints and performed q2h ROM as required. I also documented q15 min on the restraint flowsheet. Another responsibility I has was obtaining vital signs. I hope this helps. Please feel free to email me with any further questions.
