Psych nursing books....

  1. Yay! I got the job! I will be working primarily with the chemically dependant/detox with a little chronically ill patients thrown into the mix. This will my first time working in this area and am looking for a good book for us nurses. Any ideas? When I asked the House Coordinator (who interviewed me also) he suggested "Psychology for Dummies"! While this may be an interesting book it doesn't help from a nursing standpoint. The book stores don't have anything direct either. Help???

I would suggest "Loosening the Grip" by Jean Kinney, "Chemical Dependency Counseling" by Robert Perkinson, and "Psychiatric Diagnosis" by Goodwin & Guze. Good luck.
