by psych_np Feb 12, '12I am a RN MSN who has recently been accepted to a PMHNP program. I plan to study both pediatric & adult. I have heard that in some states a PMHNP can function independently within their own private practice? Is anyone here doing this and if so, can you share how you set up your business plan, if there are any management companies or mentors that help new PMHNP's set up their business? Is there a state list somewhere?
Also, I'm just interested in learning how difficult it was to obtain employment with this specialty and your overall satisfaction within this specialization (challenges/positives).
Salary?
Thanks so much!

- Apr 28, '12 by newtinmplsHmmm. Salary e-mails forwarded from headhunters are telling me anything from 85-120 or so annually. As for independent practice, try Oregon (great union - OMG - I'm seriously in envy).
If your college is anything like mine you will start getting fowarded headhunter e-mails. The other place you might try are online NP organizations; can't recall which one, but a google search can help. There is one site that has a map that rates states in terms of how independent the NP's are.
