We have had an incident whereby a staff member was injured at an open nursing station area with a counter on a locked psychiatry unit. There is a closed chart room located behind this counter area with a
door that locks.
A. I would like to know if other facilities have open nursing stations/counters on locked units? B. If you use counters and open areas, how are your counters configured-
any protective covering between the individual behind the counter and the patients? How about height and width of counters?
Since we are having to re-evaluate our setting, I would like to know what is in place for others. Thank you.
