New Grad Psych Nursing... Can I make it work?

by claireb

So I am a new graduate BSN (been working in Allergy outpatient as an RN for 2 years). (no hospital experience that's why I call myself a new grad)

I am dying to crack into psych nursing, it has been my passion since nursing school.

Some nurses tell me its a horrible idea to go straight into psych... but since hospitals aren't really hiring in Northern California I am considering giving it a shot.

How should I go about gettting this job? Is it even a good idea? any tips from all the psych nurses out there?

PS anyone know of hospitals that are in need of psych nurses? Northern California or anywhere...

Go talk to directors at places that have psych hospitals and see if they have needs. Let them know your interest! I went straight into psych after graduation and loved it.

I also went right into psych, did fine and love it! While I appreciate new hires admitting they are green I would be put off by you calling yourself a new grad when in fact you have 2 years of experience as a RN. Good luck.
