Interviewing in a mental health facility

Specialties Psychiatric

I am a new grad RN and I just got a call from a local mental health facility for an interview tomorrow, this will be my first interview since I got my license. Does anyone have any interview tips or advice?

Dress appropriately. You'd be surprised how many people don't know what's appropriate for an interview.

Bring a few copies of your resume with you. If you did the application on line, it'll be much easier to read than a downloaded one.

You should know at least something about the facility. And, for sure have an answer when they ask you why you want to work in psych.

Good luck.

I had my interview on June 27th and did a facility observation the next day. The HR person told me to call and let her know if I was still interested in the position, so I called her and told her I was still interested, but she wasn't there so I left a message. The following Monday I called and spoke with her and she told me they were still waiting on the other applicants who are doing facility visits. She told me she would let me know by the end of the week. I haven't received a call. The position I applied for has been posted since Nov. 2012, so either they have turned down a bunch of applicants or haven't received any applications.
