I've always been interested in psych but I followed my instructors "advice" and didn't go directly into the area when I graduated 4 years ago. I worked 1.5 in oncology and 1.5 in a clinical setting. I haven't worked the last year because of a cancer diagnosis and three subsequent surgeries. I'm now ready to get back to the real world and life is too short to not do what makes you happy.
A dear friend of mine is a physician at a state psychiatric hospital and she has been very encouraging. She will act as a reference, which I think will be very helpful. My question to you is, aside from the meds and general concepts of psychiatric dx, what should I brush up on? I'm very comfortable with assessment and skills.
While I dread explaining why I've taken a year off, I'm excited about my decision and I want to be as prepared as I possibly can.
Thanks for your help!
