Does anyone have any data about legislation/requirements/standards for the minimum frequency of routine vital signs in a long term psych facility for the chronically and persistently mentally ill?
We are currently taking vital signs routinely on all 50 patients on every unit once a day. (Unless, of course, their condition and/or medications require otherwise.)
We have found, however, that doing the VS for all at the same time (before dinner) seems to contribute to an increase in aggressive behavior, with the lining up and crowding.
Yes, I know we can change the time and number of pts. done at once... :-) but I am curious to know if there are any requirements that say how often routine vitals need to be taken on the stable folks in this long term population.
