Difficulty finding psych nursing positions

Specialties Psychiatric

I have been doing a lot of web searching for psych positions in the Pacific Northwest and find it very difficult to locate any opportunities. Is this a common finding among others who are also searching? If so can anyone offer explanations for the seeming lack of positions in this specialty? Thanks!

There are psych nursing positions available on a fairly regular basis at the State hospital in Salem, Oregon.

Thanks Halinja!! I think I crossed this page once before. I'm a Canadian citizen, so I'd have to see whether I qualify to apply.

There are many private psych facilities located all over the US. Issue is also language skills if you did not train in the US or Canada, as well as a significant issue with the idioms that we use everyday.......separate from the medical jargon.

This is one issue that usually comes up...........most facilities that I have spoken with will only hire a nurse that has trained in the US for psych. And if foreign, they also need to go thru several interviews concerning the language skills.

I'm a Canadian-trained RN and fairly new grad, so language skills shouldn't be an issue....I even have a little French and Chinese under my belt!...I'm very close to finishing my mental health certificate program so knowledge of the specialty shouldn't be an issue...thanks!!
