    Hello All

I am a new grad with an interview for a local state psych facility. They have current openings in the Extended Treatment and Acute Treatment programs. What is the difference between these and which would you suggest for a new grad?

    Thank you!

Acute = short-term (a week, maybe two, but often less)

Extended = long-term (your long-term or chronic cases), or it could mean outpatient/day/partial hospitalization programs where the care isn't 24/7 but is extended out over time. I would ask the facility exactly what Extended entails.

IMO, I think the acute treatment positions would give a new grad more exposure to various mental health conditions. Downside: you'll have a lot to learn and have to learn it faster than if you were dealing with long-term or chronic cases where your patient population isn't changing as frequently.

I will definately ask the difference during the interview. I want to be able to learn about different mental health conditions but I also dont want to be so overwhelmed with new information that I have a hard time coping with the new change.
    Thank you again!
