I want to get my board certification in psychiatric-MH nursing. For those of you that have done this, is it enough to just get the book offered by ANCC and study it. If you went to a workshop or did a test taking course, how helpful do you feel that was? I'm trying to get the most bang for my $. Your recommendations and tips are immensely valuable to me!

I just used the book, every last word in it! The test is difficult, very difficult.

Hi beccajean, I'm actually looking for same exact info! I haven't purchased the ANCC book yet, just using the ATI RN Mental Health Nursing review book from school to do an overview and quick review for now until I get better suggestions.

I took the exam 15 years ago.

The only study guide I used was an up to date textbook that a professor gave me. That, along with 6 years Inpatient, 8 years psych home care got me through.

However, it seems that the practice has changed. Clinical supervision, 1:1, nurses doing groups is less frequent than it was back then.

A coworker was going to go to a 2 day seminar this weekend. I'll post about whether he thought it was worth it when I find out later in the week. The book from ANCC is more than I want to pay, but I guess I'll have to budget for it.

How about looking for a used ANCC book on Ebay, Amazon, or post a request here or on Facebook?

I used two review books and some flashcards. Hardest test I've ever taken to date but I passed...and you know I'm doing whatever it takes to keep my certification current so I never have to take that damn test again!
