help! i am thinking about becoming an independent medicaid and private pay home health nurse, i have been working in the home health field for 3 yrs. i have the provider packet from medicaid, but it does not give much info. anyone know of a good resource on policy, procedure, guidelines, covered expenses, pay scale????? any help will be greatly appreciated. email: [email protected]

I live in New York and I found a great woman that worked for a staffing agency for 12 years and she has her own business teaching nurses how to become independent providers (private duty nurses).

Maybe she'll help people who need this - but she charges $20/month if I read this correctly. I did it all on my own thru the emedny website. Cost $0.00 - the only thing I can say in favor of this is that there are a billion steps - but it really is doable on your own thru the emedny website & calling customer service a billion times as well. But there could be a million things i'm not aware of - so I hate to discredit her. I know that I have an awesome homecare job, am reimbursed wonderfully & did it all on my own.

I recently got my NPI from medicaid, and now i am trying to get all my billing procedure codes for Private Duty Nurse. The Provider's Manual only has 2 codes, for registered nurses, does that mean that i have to use only these codes no matter what procedure i do. As well as the forms that i need for my work, do i have to create them myself? or can they be obtained somehow? Which forms should be included in Patients chart, and how many forms are there?,

I wanted to know how good is she? did she help you? does the information that she gives out really is helpful, and the classes are they online or not? I don't know if she can help me or not, because i already have my NPI, and i just need to start billing, i need to know how to correctly bill, and i need to know my procedure codes. How can i find that out, Thanks in advance.

Well - now that you have your NPI# you can apply for your medicaid provider#. As far as codes - I use only 1 code as an LPN. I do not know if RN's use only 1 as well or more (it's the homecare code is this helps) maybe customer service at emedny (are you NY?) can help - & (a secret) if they "can't" help you - call back - some representatives are better than others. The forms will be included in the pt charts - but you can keep records as well. 2 more things - get insurance!! & # 2- file your claims online! Good luck!!! Lisa

OH MY!!! I do my own billing online - it's a piece of cake! 98% of my questions were answered by emedny customer service# & the other 2% was from other nurses on the case. Sorry to discredit anyone - but I can't help voicing my opinion! Be careful fellow nurses!

If you don't want to deal with the billing yourself then this is good. Some nurses don't know where to start or simply don't want to be bothered with doing the billing themselves.

Billing is easy right on the emedny website & customer service can help you , as far as getting cases they are advertised in CraigsList and the pennysaver - if there ARE other ways of getting clients than it may be worth it - but this is not worth it for the billing part!!!!

Hi Rita, I have registered with her twice and still no response. I live in South Carolina but I would travel to NY to meet with her if need be. Can you tell me how long before a response from her???
