Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi, I wanted some advise as to what am I suppose to do. I was in a BSN program for 3 years, I withdrew from the program in my junior year in 2010 b/c of family problems at home. Now I am thinking of going back and finish what I started. I spoke with the nursing chair at my school and she said she will accept me and I will just pick up from where I left off. I had taken fundamental of nursing, ped/ob and pharmacology and pathophysiology, nursing concepts....so I will start with med surg 1. My question is will I be able to pick up at that level, even though the chair person trusts me. I feel like I do not remember anything from my previous courses and I will have a hard time with the material at this level. I was an average student by the way, I have Bs and B- in some of the nursing courses. Right now I am 27 and have 2 kids 3 yo and 1 yo. having to take care of my 2 children and going to school at the same time scares me too.

sorry for the long post and thanks in advance..

Absolutely go back to school. Yes you forgot things, yes you have kids, and if you where a B student that's wonderful. I know many great nurses that where C students. Remember C means continue. All you need is a good mentor and support system in place. You didn't state but hopefully your married and your parents or in-laws live nearby to help with the kids. Yes it is a big sacrifice but it is worth sacrificing for. If your on your own I would say no, but you came a long way and you can see it through. My wife attained her bsn while working full time and going to the university full time and with kids. Granted the only thing that eluded her was sleep but she did it. She now works in a 28 bed ICU dept and is back at the university getting her masters to be a FNP, so it can be done.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

I would try to retake or do some kind of refresher of those other courses. They will come up on the NCLEX, and will be relevant moving forward with school and your career.

I think you should do it!!

Thanks a lot for your positive inputs, god I wish my husband was as understanding as you are. I will keep you gys posted as to what I finally decided on.
