Will you delete your Facebook account of you get into nursing school?

I've been thinking alot about my Facebook account since all the problems it has brought to people not only in nursing school but also peoples lives.

So my question to you is: if you get accepted to nursing school will you delete your account? Or if in school now will you delete after you graduate?

umm...i have doctor friends,lawyer friends and politician friends...should they delete theirs as well?...

so nope...not gonna happen...just have to be smart about what you want out there...be abit modest as my mom use to say..

Well the question had to be tailored to nursing that is why I asked it the way I did. My thoughts were on the students that have not used "common sense" pertaining to the fb with their nursing careers and schooling.

I did not delete my FB account, nor will I. If you're that paranoid about posting on FB, be paranoid about posting ANYWHERE on the internet, especially in nursing specific forums. :-P

Seriously though...be a critical thinker and use your best judgement about what it is you put out there for others to read and see.:D

Can't say paranoia is the main reason people feel the way they do if they don't fb or are planning on deleting.

I never deleted it. But rule #1 of social networking sites: NEVER post anything you don't want your boss, recruiter, or mom to read. I think keeping it is a good thing: it forces you to think before you type.

Are you serious???? Do what you want. In my opinion, do you have more than one email acct? Give the school your assigned email account by the school or create one just for that purpose. How detailed is your FB? Do you have a pic of you on it? Is your name spelled out exactly like at school? As long as your are mature and do not post stupid crap on FB, then you have nothing to worry about. If you feel you must act silly and immature, then create a free site in google and post away. Better yet, get a friend you are close with and vent away. Keep your account if you like but you do not have to update your network every 30 seconds on what you are doing. Good luck in school.

Anyways, I'm in nursing school and FB has been an invaluable way for all of my classmates to discuss stuff and contact each other. We have a group and it is used every single day for asking questions, sharing resources, venting, etc. Yes, there are other ways to form groups online, but FB is just simple and easy.

Nope. I'm graduating in May and I have no intention of deleting my facebook. I don't see the point. A lot of people I know who graduated just changed their facebook names after the fact. Most of them have just their first and middle name or first name and last initial.

I'm in nursing school and have a Facebook page, and am friends with many of my classmates on Facebook. Our class even made a group so that we can share news and announcements. It's been EXTREMELY helpful, since many of us are on Facebook a lot.

I haven't run into any problems. I just use common sense. I don't post anything slanderous or b**chy about my classmates, instructors, or school. I don't swear. I don't post anything about drinking, going out to the bars, being hungover on a Saturday morning, etc. Not that I have much time to go out anymore, anyway. I would never upload any "scandalous" pictures of myself, especially if I was wearing my clinical uniform. I'm usually pretty eager to get out of that thing, anyway. :) It's not that cute.

I have my account set up so that people can't search for my name, and only people that I'm already friends with can see my profile. Privacy has always been a really big issue to me, whether it be Facebook or anything else. I don't approve friend requests unless I already know the person well.

I see no reason to delete my facebook account. Just be careful with your privacy settings, who you friend and what you post.

I do not nor will I join facebook. My family and I am sure some of you think that you are posting appropriately. I have seen some of the comments and I have no problem with my posting or my comments either. There are people out there who don't know how to separate issues and reality. I have been a RN (35 years) with many degrees past the Nursing and very active in Community etc.

My concern is stupid postings from other people and my family. By family, I mean we can't choose the cousins, etc. and I have seen how things can be seen differently from another's eyes. Example, Someone got annoyed at another member of the family and posted on Facebook about this person's education background. They questioned if this person lied about the degree they had saying, they don't remember that person going to school. The person was a CEO for a big company and it caused major issues. It seems like nothing only a doubt but for that person it was major. The same way us nurses like to be helpful and sometimes will tell someone we know what they can do to feel better. That can get you in trouble, also depending on what you say. You will say, this is my family or good friend. This is your career.

Think about what I have said. Emails, phone, skype, and yes the old thing of writing a note or sending a card, still works. I have had people find me even though I am on face book. Whatever you decide to do, watch your back. You can lose your license outside of work for your actions. You are held to a higher standard as a professional.

I just graduated in Aug, started work in Nov. FB was very valuable to me in school. It allows me to keep up with my classmates now. No way am I giving it up. I just try to be careful about what I post.
