i am still tryng to decide if i want to go to be an LPN or RN. since the gen ed classes vary itll make a difference. i like that the LPN is a shorter course, but then again, not many hospitals around here are hiring LPNs, mostly LTC. so whos going for what?

I'm going for my RN. I've never wanted to be an LVN (LPN). I really don't know why. My grandmother, great aunt, and aunt were LVN's, so I have respect for them. It just never was my interest.

I too am going for the RN. I am planning on getting a Masters as well.

I am going for the LPN right now because I want to be able to work asap. So the career ladder option is a better fit for me. I hope to begin RN prereq's immediately after getting my LPN though and then take RN courses the following year. All of this as I work as an LPN. This is my plan, hopefully it will all work out this way:) Good luck in your decision.

HI.

I am in school right now for LPN. It is a much shorter program full time. Then if you work as an LPN here (in NY) most hospitals pay for you to go back and get your RN. In NY state there are only 3 things LPN cannot do that RNs do. They just paid alot less, and have less education. Either one is great I think. Take care!

I'm working on the pre-reqs for RN, but I plan on applying to all of the nursing schools in the area LPN, ASN, BSN.... whoever will take me :) I can always work my way up.

You and I have the same mentality; I applied to every nursing school I could afford to pay the application fee for!

Well, I'm waiting to hear if I got accepted into the LPN program that starts in January, I should hear by the end of this week and am on pins and needles!

I'm not planning on staying an LPN because a Masters degree is somewhere in my future BUT I see value in working your way up the ladder AND the LPN program starts a semester sooner then the RN program and ends a semester sooner. I need to be working as soon as I possibly can. Plus LPN's can join the RN program for the last two semesters to get the RN.

I have been accepted into both. I completed one semester of the LPN a year ago. I had to take time off due to having a baby. I am going back in January. I am going for the LPN b/c the county will pay for it. I was accepted into a private BSN school, but it is so expensive and I only have the first semester covered. I don't know what to do. I could always bridge over to the community college for their RN, but my goal is to get my BSN. I don't know what I am going to do. I know I am going through with the LPN. I just don't know if I should wait on the RN or do them concurrently.

I am completing all prereq's this semester. I just have to see how the courses will be scheduled.

I went for my LPN first so I could work and go to school, so now that I'm an LPN I'm going to school for my R.N , 3 more semesters!

I start LPN school in December of this year...it worked best for us since my hubby is in the army and will be deployed to iraq and i have an infant son, so i needed school to be short and sweet so i can work when he gets home from iraq. i want my RN but this was just easier, plus the state and federal grants would pay for ALL of my LPN school and only a quarter or two of RN school. I guess if it would have paid for all my RN stuff then i would have done that, but for our family this way was the best. Also i'm so sick of the whole waiting list thing...no wait list for LPN and little to no wait list for the LPN to RN bridge programs!!!

I guess just decide what's going to be best for you and your family and pick that one!

I am going for RN because I eventually would love to pursue NP someday. :)
