A few of us were commenting that we need to lose a significant amount of weight. Let's team up and cheer each other on to lose weight, exercise, and get healthy!! We can do it!! :pumpiron:

We can take it 5 or 10 pounds at a time so those of us with a lot to lose won't get discouraged. We can officially start April 1st so everyone can prepare and get their last binges out of the way. :roll

Everyone is welcome!! Let's take back control of our lives and get healthy!! Who is in?! :)

I AM IN!!!

I am doing kimkins...is a lower fat lower carb plan then atkins.

We should have a weekly checkin post with all of our successes!!!

My nutrition prof told us that she has actually been partially won over by the low-carb diet fad. She said that for people who only have a little weight to lose (overweight, not obese) that cutting calories, adding exercise, and just eating healthier in general is the best way to lose weight and keep it off, but that when losing weight becomes a health concern, cutting carbs can be effective. She doesn't believe in replacing bread with piles of deep-fried bacon, but agrees that cutting carbs will help you to lose weight.

I wouldn't go near a low-carb diet like Atkins or whatever....my husband and a guy where I was working both started that diet about the same time...in the same week, the guy I worked with ended up in the ER with gallstones and emergency surgery and my husband ended up in the ER with kidney stones. When he told the RN there that he'd been on Atkins for a couple of weeks, she just rolled her eyes at him and said, "You should know better..." (he's a chiropractor, lol)....apparently this is NOT uncommon...

I thought opening a new thread every week might bog down the forum too much and become a nuisance to others. I however have no issue with it. If everyone prefers a weekly check that's no problem and there are two options:

1) I open a new thread every week

2) We use the monthly thread for weekly weigh-in for that month and then open a fresh one for the following month

I'm open. I will be weighing in officially once a month as I have so much to lose this brings me less stress. Let me know what all of you want to do gang!!

Hi all! I just wanted to share with you my "exercise" story from today!

When I went to go to the gym this afternoon I got into my car, turned the key, and "rowrowrowrow"--engine wouldn't start!!! I immediately thought, "oh no....what now!" but soon realized that I had forgotton to get GAS last night!!!! ARGH! My car doesn't have an indicator light for low fuel, so if I don't get gas right when it hits the orange, I can fall into big trouble quick! So, since my boyfriend wasn't there to save the day, I said to myself, "You're a grown, independent, problem solving woman. You got into nursing school, so you can figure out how to get gas without whining for help!" I remembered that we left a gas can at our old house (we moved about a month ago), so I decided to get the bicycle out of the garage and get going! I aired up the tires and rode to our old house, got the gas can, rode to the gas station and filled it up! I then rode back to our new house, dumped the gas in my car, and viola! Problem solved! and I even got in my cardiovascular exercise for the day!!! Too funny... Now keep in mind that our new house, old house and gas station are all within a mile of each other, but still!!! It was kind of fun, actually...

Anyway, I hope everyone else is having a great day!!

Hey don't knock it--exercise is exercise. LOL Today was free "dump" day at the landfill and the hubby and I took off 3 loads of junk. That was my "exercise" today. Hahahaha.

I'm down 3lbs at this point. I'll do whatever weigh in system anyone else wants to do." 3 down...70 more to go! Woohoo!

I am definetly in.......I just had a baby in October 2006.....and due to the fact that I craved any type of sweat I could get my hands on, I gained 60 lbs....WOW......Plus I quit smoking about 3 months before I got pregnant....which made everything double tastey....LOL......I have already started walking a mile or 2 every day.....and I have cut my portions of eating in half and have added more veggies to my diet.....I began the diet part about a month ago and the walking part about 2 weeks ago and I have lost almost 10 lbs. I figure since my father has had a heart attack and 2 stents and my mother has had a heart attack and 3 stents.....I should start taking better care of myself....My goal is to loose the 60lbs I gained.....

Does anyone have any tips to help with cravings?

All right, I am in, albeit reluctantly. I know I need to lose, but hate the disapline I need to do it. Farewell sweet donuts! Hello veggies and fruit!

I opened this thread as we officially started yesterday:

As far as cravings go what I try to do is is a healthier version of whatever it is I am craving...low fat chips, fat free popsicles, etc. Also, if you miss chewing then get a pack of gum. I chewed Bazooka last time I lost a lot of weight and it really helped me out.

I get craving's for sweet things after meals (dessert) and during the afternoons while at my desk doing paperwork. It helps me to suck on a Wurther's Orginal hard candy. They have a nice flavor and take a while to dissolve without having a whole lot of calories/carbs per piece.

So far, I have lost 30 pounds since mid-October -- basically going low carbohydrate. My cholestoral and triglycerides have also improved significantly on this "common sense" version of a low-carb diet.

That sounds great. Congrats on your weight loss. I'm planning on having my cholesterol checked. The hospital where I work is having cholesterol screenings. In addition to losing weight I want to stay on top of that too.
