  1. I handed in my application for the spring semester at Nassau Community College. This is the second time since I was declined last semester.

Have applied, don't expect to get in because of squirly games....
Will raise goats in the country, get involved with kitten rescue organization, train for bodybuilding competition (without steroids and won't care if I come in last) adopt a child and sell home knit, crocheted and baked goods at art festivals if nobody wants me to be in a nursing program.

Well its rolling admissions where I'm applying and they still have slots available for Spring 07, so I can get accepted for Spring or Fall. So can't wait to get an answer, the wait is killer.

Im currently applying for the second time in Spring of 2007 at UNLV. I applied in the fall but was denied since it was too full. I feel stuck and don't know what I'm going to do If I dont get accepted. I worked sooo hard to finish and feel that everything I've learned from my pre-reqs will be forgotten by the time I actually start nursing school. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Absolutely...everytime I go to class our A&P teacher reminds us that it is very hard to get into nursing school and that it's gotten worse to get in over the last 3 years. People with good GPA's are turned away. Our school is even going so far to invite counselors from other schools over to talk about their programs which are other than nursing.....it's very discouraging.
Hang in there and keep trying.

I've been reading a lot of these types of threads and am wondering, why is it so difficult to get into a nursing program at a community college? I looked at the curriculum for Nassau CC and it doesn't seem like it would be very hard to get in. Is it a problem of too few faculty and too many students? What kind of statistics are they looking for - GPA, work experience, essay, standardized testing, etc? What do they say to people who have a bachelor's already and have completed all of the reqs except the nursing courses?
    Would be nice to know...

That is a lot of the problem. There is a shortage of staff, but also, different schools look for different things.
It really is difficult to get in. Just dont let that stop you if being a nurse is really what you want.
    Good luck!!!

The requirements for NCC are not that difficult. I guess that the problem shortage of staff and classroom space.

Well I'm not applying to any CCs now, but have submitted my application to Columbia for their BSN/MS program. I'm just wondering now, which is more difficult to get in to... I think there is a selective 'weeding-out' process that occurs for the higher level nursing programs, so less students apply (450 apply for Columbia and 150 get in for each year), while so many students apply for CCs that they make it more competitive.
Just my thoughts... keeping my fingers crossed for Columbia!

UNLV, as in University of Nevada Las Vegas? I am a pre-nursing student here at UNLV completing my last pre-req (Microbiology). I don't understand how you wouldn't be "accepted" to the Spring semester. We are on a rolling admissions program, and as long as you completed your classes with the required grades, you should be put in within the first 2 semesters.

I "applied" in the middle of September. The nursing advisor told me that everything looked good. As long as I do well in my current class, I should have no problem getting in for Spring. I am crossing my fingers!
