What type of nursing do you want to specialize in?

I would like to do Pediatrics, probably in a doctor's office.

"No! I don't wanna get a shot! I don't wanna get a shot!" ;)

How about you?

Specializes in LAD.

Women's health, but I'm open to anything! :)

Specializes in PICU.

Geriatrics, oncology or neurology in that order. Wherever The Lord places me :)

It is not true that CNM (Certified Nurse-Midwife) will soon need a PhD. ACNM does NOT support the change and they have released several notices on their stance that they feel a masters degree is sufficient for entry-level midwifery. Just an FYI.

I'm on the path to CNM, so I pay close attention to this. ;-)

I hope you're right and that it won't change! I wouldn't mind eventually getting a Master's but a PhD seems a bit much.

TO THE OP: Most clinics or doctors offices are staffed by LPNs or MA, sometimes RNs are present but going this route will hurt your career especially if you want to do it right after school as clinic work isn't considered acute care....

I've heard before on this site that most doctor's offices are hiring MAs or LPNs instead of RNs, because RNs are too expensive, but it probably depends on where you live. Most of the nurses that I've met at pediatric doctor's offices have been RNs. If this changes sometime in the near future, I have plenty of time to decide what I want to do. I might want to do something completely different from pediatrics once I actually start the nursing program at my college (right now I'm finishing up prerequisites). ;) And if I do end up working at a doctor's office, I'm not worried that it will hurt my career, I don't plan to go on and get my Master's or become a NP. I just want to work, and I would be happy to work anywhere, in a doctor's office, clinic, or hospital. Thanks for the comments!

Specializes in ICU.

I would like to work either in an Emergency Dept., pediatric oncology at the children's hospital, or ICU. I will go wherever I can get a job but those are my dream places.

PICU.

PICU.

PICU.

Unless the good lord has something else in mind for me, I FIRMLY believe that this is where I NEED to be, So I'm doing everything possible to put that into motion. I'm still working on pre-reqs so I have PLENTY of time to get my little duckies in a row.

NP, entrepreneur, author, psych and forensics :cat:

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I'm currently in pediatrics, and work pretty exclusively with patients on vents, but I really wanna do critical care and go the anesthesia route. It's just so darn hard to get a foot in the door!

It's hard to say since I have only just applied to my BSN program. I think about this subject often, and I know I'll find my calling during my actual nursing school years.

Critical care, is something that really gets me pumped up to think about. Preferably adults, I have no idea how to relate to children and feel like babies would bore me since they can't talk.. I'm chatty.

Geriatrics is something that I could see myself doing. Advocating for the elderly is something that weighs heavy in my heart. In my family our elderly members were never seen as disposable, and even now I like to go to my local nursing home and just hang out with the residents. In our busy society that caters to youth, it's important to me that older people get the best care.

Long Term, I think I'd like to go into nursing research. Providing the best patient care that includes not only physical care, but emotional and family support as well. My experiences watching my own family members in long term care make me lean towards palliative care research.

I am open to anything that is in store for me. I know that I have been led to this profession for a reason, and whatever my specialty, I want to leave a positive mark on every person I come in contact with, in work and my life.

I would love to work in L&D or the NICU

I'd love to work in L & D, the ER or NICU, however I'll take what I can get when I graduate. I can always move later on.
