While bearing in mind it's hard to walk into your area of choice esp as a new grad; I would really love one of the following areas L&D, Cardiac or ED, however after reading numerous research and posts here, as a new grad nurse med surg might be a great option as a first job to gain experiance and utilize my newly learned skills. I am willing to take on a job in many areas, bar a few that I have absolutely no interest in at all.

I wanted to do ICU or ER. While in nursing school, I actually learned that there were a ton of other interesting specialties that I would enjoy doing. However, I also learned that I liked ICU and ER the most. I worked my rear off to get an ICU externship in school which turned into an ICU new grad position. It can be done, but most people don't achieve it right out of school.

See as many specialties as you can. Work toward your goals. Enjoy life.

When I first graduate I will take whatever gives me the most experiece... but eventually I would love to be geriatric! I love older people. And if I go for my master's, maybe even a nurse educator.

I feel the same way. Some of the fields don't really interest me.
