What should I do when I ens up with a C in Anatomy ?

Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am currently studying at MtSac and I found out that I got a C in Anatomy. I was devastated. Will it hurt my chances of attending to nursing program ? Nursing has been my dream and I know I have to work harder. I still have 2 more science classes. I don't want a C to stand in my way. Can someone give me an advice what to do ? Thanks. It'll be very helpful if you reply.

A C could possibly hurt your chances at entering a competitive nursing program. Some programs accept C's but I know that many prefer to see B's or A's. If I were you, I would try to pull B's and A's in the rest of my pre-reqs here on out and hope for the best. I wouldn't be too worried, but again, it depends on the nursing program. Good luck.

There are options: retake Anatomy or "test out" by taking a CLEP exam and get an A or B on the exam.

I CLEP'ed my Anatomy and got the required grade to get into my school

of choice; I also got the required percentage on the required placement test as well.

Speak to the nursing advisors and see what they say; if they are having an issue with it, cast your net wide and interview other programs you are interested in.

It depends on the average accepted applicant's GPA and how well you do in other classes to make up for the C

you should check before you take the class as to what grade is needed. You don't "will it hurt my chances" AFTER you get the C. You should know what you need up front then earn it. No one to blame on this one but yourself. Own it and move on.

cant you just retake it? If you get better score it replaces the old one. C will hurt your GPA bad

Honestly, I would suggest retaking that grade. I had a B+ in one of my AP classes and retook it just in case. It may not ruin your chances, but you might have to get A's in the rest of your classes. All depends on what your program accepts though.

^^ This is exactly 100% truth. ^^

I am also dumbstruck by the "I found out that I got a C in Anatomy".

You found out?! You didn't know how you were doing in the class all semester?

Did the instructor hide all grades from you all semester until they showed up on your transcript?

I mean, the implication of "I found out" is that you had absolutely no idea it was a possibility and got completely and unfairly broadsided by the grade once it posted.

I don't buy that even a little bit, and neither will/should an admissions committee.

I'm sorry - but you not only need to own it now that you've earned it, but you REALLY should have owned it very early in the semester when you started to see the kind of grades that would lead to a C and started to do whatever it would take to turn it around.

I've watched the grades in every class I've ever taken like a hawk so I know EXACTLY where I stand at any point during the semester so I know exactly how much effort I have to put in for the rest of the semester to get the grade I insist on.

I've never once "found out" I got a grade in a class - I've always known exactly what was going to happen on my transcript before it ever happened.

You have to check with the programs you plan on applying what their policies are for retakes and what courses you can retake and how many retakes they accept. just something to keep in mind as they can be picky about retakes.
