My daughter was born 3 months early and it was a very trying time for us... I really think on of the reasons we made it was because of our nurses in the NICU... They were so sweet, caring, and really made us feel comfortable in at a very uncomfortable time in our lives. So... My heart is really in the NICU... or L&D... I'd love to work with babies.

I haven't even started pre-reqs yet but I would have to say that I would most likely want to work in pediatrics or in the PICU or maybe even pediatric trauma? I dunno... I'm open to any specialty area but I've been told that I'm good with kids. Also, I heard it's harder to get jobs in L&D or NICU or any involving babies basically, lol. Plus I would probably be slightly uncomfortable dealing with newborns on a daily basis as I have virtually NO experience with babies (although I'm sure nursing school clinicals will cure that). I know I said I was open to all specialty areas but I'm a bit hesitant towards geriatrics and oncology because last time I was in a hospital for an extended period of time my elderly grandmother died of cancer and I'm afraid that perhaps working with those kinds of patients every day would bring back painful memories. I don't know... I guess only time will tell!

I thought when I started school I wanted to be in L&D for sure...no question!! But in really thinking about it, I may want to pursue other areas.

I have been thinking that I may want to work with sick children...maybe at a childrens hospital or something. I have been thinking about what I can give and I think I can maybe lift the spirits of some children who are not feeling all that great for whatever illness they may have.

So, at this point, I am unsure, but once I get into clinicals, I know I'll figure it out!
