Were you CPR certified before you applied?

by mell260

Application deadlines are coming up and I'm wondering how much schools care whether you are CPR certified already? I know that I'll have to get it done before the start of classes, but am just hoping I don't have to squeeze that into the next few weeks

I would just do it if you are worried. When I took the class it was just a one time 2 hour ordeal, no big thing.

BLS for healthcare providers is usually about 4 hours. It wasn't required at my school until we started clinicals. I don't know where you are in your education but our fall semester of sophomore year (for a four year program) was when it was required.

I applied, was admitted to, and started Nursing School when I was 24, have been continuously CPR certified since I was 15, and been at the CPR for Healthcare Providers level since I was 18.

What, everyone doesn't get/keep certs like that?

CPR licensing from what I know is required by all schools before clinical courses AT LEAST. Mine require it before you can take any nursing courses.

I would get it anyway, just to make your application more competitive. I took CPR/AED training for the Professional Healthcare Provider through the American Red Cross. It covered infants, children, and it was a 8-hour course.

I will be getting mine between my fall and spring semesters during the break. I won't even find out if I got accepted until March, but I figure I'd get it then because if I am accepted for a summer start, time will be precious.

My schools don't even ask if we are CPR certified on the application. It's not required until you start class. I'm not taking it until I know I get in somewhere--it's bad enough having to do the basic CPR every year for work.
