Week #1 check in :)

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Well... last night completed week 1 of classes for me. I dont know what to make of the semester so far.

My micro lecture professor seems pretty cool... I have a feeling her class will be pretty straight forward and it certainly seems like she does everything short of giving you the answer keys for the tests. The class seems like it will be pretty interesting

Micro lab on the other hand... ugh... I do not care for my lab instructor. I am hoping she will grow on me as the semester goes. She seems to be a little too "structured" (for lack of better words) when it comes to her class. Lab lasts about 3 hours and we are supposed to watch a movie at the end after we complete our lab assignments. She does not expect us to take a break during this time unless it is completely necessary. We have to sit on the wooden stools that are extremely uncomfortable and to add to it my knee being stuck in the brace makes sitting very uncomfortable. So after we finished our assignments we took a break... she didnt seem to happy about it.

Ethics... well.. lets just say that will not be fun. I have never heard of an attendance policy as strick as this professors. We have 2 quizzes each class (together they count for 45% of your final grade) and we have a large project to work on throughout the semester. He says that he teaches it like a discussion class though which is the only reason why I am holding out some hope that it may get interesting.

My Sociology class seems like it will be the one that I enjoy the most. My professor is really down to earth and seems to enjoy the class. It is nice to have a class where not everyone in there is a pre-nursing student as well (I think there are only 3-4 of us in there)... We have a large project (paper and 15 min presenation) that is due at the end of the semester and our final will come from the class presentations. I am not sure how I feel about that but she assured us that it would be as painless as possible.

I am finding that I do not have the same urge to go to school that I did this summer :sniff: That worries me a lot and I know that i have got to do something to find my motivation again... any ideas?

Don't over do it. Feeling overwhelmed will burn you out quickly!

Good luck!!!

You know.. the sad thing is that I do not even really feel overwhelmed... I just feel blah. I have no major desire to go to class, etc... the only semester I have ever felt this way was when I decided I didnt want to go to school and I was forced to... so I went but did nothing and ended up an academic warning my the end of the semester :crying2: so I guess I am scared that if I dont find the urge to go to class and get active soon it will be the same way. I am trying my hardest to not compare this semester to my summer classes (by far the most fun I have had in a semester EVER) because I know those classes were the exception and not the norm. Hopefully once next week begins and we are diving into all the material (not going over what to expect from the courses, etc) I will be more into it.

Thanks!

You have lots on your plate. Hopefully soon your won't feel "BLAH" and something exciting will happen. Good luck :)

Hey everyone! I just finished up my first week of classes as well! Phew..I'm taking A&P 1 AND Micro...Both professors are great. My micro instructor doesn't seem so nice. :uhoh21: Did anyone have to keep a bound notebook for their micro lab??? We're supposed to write down our experiments/procedures..but we have to do lab reports every class as well. If anyone did keep a notebook what did you put in it?? I hope everyone is keeping their cool and not stressing out too bad! I hope we can all help each other! :)

We are supposed to have a lab notebook as well... and we have tests in labs (not like the practicals that you have in A&P)... we are watching a movie in just about every lab and we are tested off of what we watched as well as things from our labs.

Micro and A&P at once? If you have the right teachers a lot of dedication I guess it wouldnt be as bad as it sounds. I did a combined for of A&P so I am not sure what is covered in I&II respectively. I did it this summer and we started with the basics and went through all the bones and into the cats where we covered all the organ systems and how they worked, etc. I know that we did not go into nearly the detail that the A&PII class did that was going on at the same time when it came to certain areas though. It was enough work for me though :) BUT I have to say that I LOVED that class. I was told by several that if you enjoyed A&P than nursing isnt a bad feeling.. and that if I hated A&P or had a very difficult time in it then maybe nursing wasnt for me.

Good luck!!!

My first week was GREAT. Love my Advanced A&P class.

My math teacher is INSANE though.

Week 2 here I come!

Well, yesterday was my first day of classes. I had Micro, Ethics, and Communications. Today I have Cultural Anthropology and Nutrition. But I am way excited. My micro class has 64 people in it due to the fact that one of our professors could not be here in the fall, but that is just lecture so that should be fine. However, the class was only supposed to be 30, Oh Well. Anyway, I get to be an A&P T.A. and I am so excited. Except one of the lab professors is a doctor, so she does not know cat muscles at all, so that is pretty much my job, yay! Well, anyway, I hope that everyone else's classes go extremely well! :)

Alnee,

I sit on the opposite side of the room in your Micro class. I recognized your name when Ms Spencer called the roll last night. Who do you have for lab? I have Ms Spencer and she is wonderful but I am going to be in a different lab class next week because I have an appointment that I cant change during my lab. I will be attending the Thursday night lab next week.

I really like Ms Spencer- she really knows her stuff unlike the A&P teacher I had a couple of semesters ago. He bored me to death!

I have Dr. Patterson for lab (Wednesday night)... hopefully this week will be better than last week. I always recognize your name but I can not see who is raising their hand and where! LOL... I have had to trap myself over on that side of the room because of my knee and having to keep it up in class.

I really like lecture... Ms. Spencer is fast moving but that is a good thing. She really does seem to know her stuff and makes every effort for the class to know it as well. My hand did start to get a little sore at the end of class last night after taking all the notes... but hey... from the sound of it she is basically telling us what we have to know and not sugar coating it with useless information.

Who did you have for A&P? I just took that class this summer and I had Dr. Hyle... he grew on me throughout the semester and believe it or not I actually miss his class. I have heard horror stories about people that had him and I guess he liked our class. Those that came to our night class from his day lecture often ended up sticking around because he was much better with our class. It really was an interesting semester and I found that the way he beat stuff into our heads has helped in micro (cell parts, osmosis, diffusion, etc)...

I had George Matea for A & P. Most of what we learned, we learned on our own. He was very monotone and didnt seem to know a ton about the material. He moved to Maryland after our class was over.

I start in one week so .. just eavesdropping for now!! Good luck, all!!
