Waitlisted and 7 options for what's next in life...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi, so waitlisted again for a nursing program. Next question is what is next:

Option 1: Sit around go through the whole dance again next year for the Associates program and if I get in be done in 2 year's.

Opition 2: Take prerequisites for an ABSN program be done in 3 year's.

Option 3: Take prerequisites for a BSN program be done in 3 1/2 to 4 year's.

Option 4: Jump in the Fall or Spring for the LPN program. Hope work gives me days off to attend or find a night job. Pay $30,000 be done in 2 year's and work in the prison system of California. See about 40 job openings a month in the prison system of California for LPNs.

Option 5: Pay $50,000 to $60,000 for a Profit RN program be done in 3 1/2 year's.

Option 6: Apply to a PTA or OTA program...again I have to find a night job that the program has a M-F 2 semesters 8-4 internship.

Option 7: Go for my Master's in Social Work or Counseling.

You sound like me, trying to make a decision on the route to take. Lvn? Or pre-reqs for ADN? I have a Bachelors in unrelated field but could do pre-reqs and get there as well. I think I'm fighting the pre-reqs when I should also embrace them because where I'm trying to get to, FNP, no doubt they will need to be done along the way. Enjoy the journey or make it a sprint?

I'm very indecisive but don't want to waste time, but I'm paying out of pocket, soooooo.

Would like to be a nurse and work on psych/work in the corrections system is my ultimate goal.

Right now hindered have average grades B and B+'s with a fee A' s. Keep getting waitlisted for the program and really have one more shot before I have to retake all my prerequisites again. If I do the LVN route have to take all my prerequisites once I am done again for an RN program.

Other is I still have to take different prerequisites to get into the other RN programs in my State.

Add in even if I can get into an RN program they are full time M-F 8 to 4 programs mostly same for the PTA/OTA. I have to take a dramatic cut in pay close to ten dollars an hour for 2 year's and see if I could find a night job.

The only really flexible program is the LVN program, but have to see if work allow me off every Saturday in liue of me working every Sunday for 2 year's.

What state are you in? I'm in Texas and some programs even have LVN online. That may be better IF you have to continue to work.

Connecticut. Crazy thing tried applying for jobs in Texas didn't pan out. Heard how flexible their programs were. Plus tax was nothing out there. Inexpensive rent. Colleges are $10,000 to $30,000 less out there! LPN to BSN bridge programs. They hire LPNs at the County jails and State Psych facilities. The weather is out of this world in Texas.

Hard to jump a State without a license to the name or from one company location to the next.

You're right. Definitely options here, but everyone knows it and is working to get in. Best of luck in your decision making!

It seems that you and I are almost on the same boat.

The thing is the decision depends on you and your life situation. Do you want to be a nurse sooner? Do you need to make money sooner? Be a LVN/LPN and bridge over to RN later. Otherwise, you could try to get into ASN program without being waitlisted. But you can also be wasting time by being waitlisted again.

I would never recommend anyone getting to an overpriced for-profit BSN program. Its not worth getting in debt over.

You could apply for the PTA, OTA, or social work programs. But it is really what you truly what to want to do in life? You don't want to invest money in career that you may not enjoy in the long term.

I have almost the same dilemma as you. I decided to get into the LPN program. For one thing, it is less competitive than the RN program. I can finish sooner and be a nurse sooner. I can work and pay my way through the RN program while getting experience. The college I attend gives me more points(yes they use a point system) for completing their LPN program when bridging to their RN program. Plus, I attend a community college and I have state grants paying for my entire LPN education(they won't pay for the RN). My LPN program cost around $6,000.

Good luck to whatever you decide to do! í ½í¸Š

LPN is guaranteed admission. Only rub is it's $30,000 to $35,000 a year. Also the part time program: One meets eves M-R and the other M/W or T/R with every Saturday entire day.

So I could work day's during the week for the eve program. However, would be home by 430 some days later than that. I could do the other program but no guarantee cab get someone to pick my Saturdays up for exchange of their Sundays.

The only rub with the PTA and OTA program is limited program's. Only 2 PTA programs that have 2 semesters of full time internships M-F 8 to 4.

The OTA program is similar to the PTA program schedule. Only other rub 1 program is at a public university and the other 2 are at private higher education facilities costing $40,000 to $60,000 for entirety of the program.

please stay away from those for profit schools. i attend one right now, and i am looking for a way out ! the teachers know absolutely nothing ! the classes are overcrowded. They charge is far too much ! i only got 4 book this semester, yet the cost of the books was 2,000 ! These schools will rip you off. There is a fee for everything.
