VENT SESSION

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Ahhhh single mother to two at 24 yrs old...i work full-time and go to school on my off days (what a life) my weekends are spent turning up in my books (lol) i have no time to spend with family and friends and not enough time for my babies with that being said at the end of every day i lie down next to my babies knowing that one day I'll make a difference to them and me being a first generation college student will invite other family members onboard to getting an educatuon because KNOWLEDGE is power. Becoming a nurse will allow me to care of others and my family financially so it will be a win win and this is what keeps me going!

Step right up lol go ahead and vent but dont forget to put what keeps you going at the end...ahhhh all better now... back to work i go....

I am a single mom as well, but to only one. I just keep telling myself that it will only get better from here. I am taking the steps to create a better life for us and to hopefully be a role model to my daughter (I am the first in my family to go to college as well). And maybe MAYBE one day she will understand how good she had it considering I am a single mom...spoiled children;) But aside from that, no rant here....just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I think its great that you are a single mom working and going to school to better yourself. Keeping working at it...it will pay off! I wish you the best of luck!

Hey guys, I am married with one boy (toddler). We are working harder than ever and I begin my nursing program in August. Scared but excited. We have always had to live with my in-laws, and it was intentionally to help my husband and I get through with school. However, plans don't always happen how we first invision and new things can come forth over a short period of time...like my little angel. It was fate and timing on God's part that did it for me. As soon as I found out I got accepted to college, I found out I was going to be a mommy. Being pregnant is what drove me through school with success thus far. I can only imagine this is true for you ladies (and gentlemen ;)) It will all be worth it when we can give our kids and families what we know they deserve. Best wishes to you all!!!

You guys, I'm so glad you are all pursuing your dreams despite some boundaries. I always tell people, having a child shouldn't hold you back, it should motivate you to want to do better for the sake of you and your children's lives, albeit me not having any children myself. I just really look up to it and think it's beautiful when people don't give up. Having children isn't the end of the world, only the beginning. It's pointless to stay latent...

I am in a relationship (he's a full time student as well) and we have a 1 year old. It is really tough for us and right now I am flustered because finals week is coming and I have 3 papers due + final exam in psych while juggling that with my home life. In the end, we know it's worth it. We're doing it for our son's future and our own.

I am a mother of 2 (3yo and 8 mo) although I do have a boyfriend. I will be starting my pre-reqs this fall and may I say that I am TERRIFIED about being able to balance it all. I have been a SAHM for almost a year now so I am concerned about the drastic changed in family dynamics school will put on us all. Financially its going to be a struggle too, because I keep feeling that I need to work full time in order to help make ends me and/or save money.

Thankfully for my first year at least we are living with my mom so the financial burden is not great (so I will only work P/T) but I am worried about what we are going to do when we move.

However I CANNOT stop. I will not. I am trying to envision myself in 3-5 years when this is over and I will be much much better able to assist my family AND do something I will hopefully love.

Girl that is so good for you. I did my prereqs already so let me just say, pace yourself and give yourself time. Don't overload you schooling prerequisites because of two major things. 1) you first and foremost want to spend some time with family before you get into your program because once yiu start that, in order to succeed you will have to dedicate the majority of you time to that. Prerequisites are much easier to work around so you can have a good amount of family time. And 2) if yiu take on too much, your gpa might drop making it more difficult for acceptance into your desired program (s). I will be praying for you all on here. Keep imagining yourself in the future. It is all worth it!

I am a single mom to an 8 year old boy. He is really excited and proud that I am pursuing my dreams. I am showing him how important education is and to go always go for your dreams. It's a difficult balance between school, homework, his homework, his judo practice and tournaments, but somehow we make it work. It's a matter of being organized and sticking to my schedule. A lot of planning. He goes back to school next week and I am at the end of August. Just trying to relax a little before the real work in the program this August.

Thanks NeoNat. Ive actually mapped out all my 6 semesters. Im a fairly good student, above average, so I tried to balance my easy classes with one big one every semester, For example this semester I am taking Math 101 (I can ace this with my eyes closed as i took Calculus in HS) English 101 (again, should be easy), PSYCH 101, and A&P1 this semester. Im taking 2 online and the other classes in 2 days at the actual college

Next semester is PSYCH 2, Speech Fundamentals (basically public speaking) , A&P 2, and Sociology. I want to get as many prerequisites out of the way because nursing school and clinicals is going to be hard as is and I want to not have to worry about taking other multiple classes. If I complete it this way, I am only taking ONE other class alongside my nursing classes for the entire program.
