Teas Study Skills Sticky

by HM2VikingRN Staff

I have noticed a lot of threads about the TEAS. I am going to make this thread a sticky.

Test takers please share your study plans and strategies with your fellow students.

What worked for you?

What didn't work for you?

What study resources did you use?

What did you understand about the test?

What didn't you understand?

(Please no sharing of actual test questions as that could be construed as cheating per TOS.)

I actually felt that the study manual from atitesting.com was very helpful. The questions were in the same format and it did give you a chance to brush up on basic skills.

My one complaint was that the science category for the TEAS was all over the place. The study manual centered around human anatomy and had a small section on general science. They asked more questions from general science for the actual test, the geology and earth science questions are the ones that stick out in my mind.

Overall, I felt the study manual was the best resource, the online test was also helpful. If you can only afford to get one of them I would go for the book.

My results say that the national average on the TEAS test is 72.8%. Obviously go for the highest amount you can, but I would say above an 80% is a 'good score'. There were calculators at my testing site. I thought they weren't going to provide them but I must have been mistaken. The only thing you NEED the calculator for is the geometry section. When you need the value for the square root of seven, it is pretty necessary to have a calculator. All the other problems are things you can do by hand, it may just be more convenient to have a calculator.

Yes it is computer based. Go to www.atitesting.com, you actually sign in to this website in order to take the test. If you purchase the online practice assessment it will be in the same format as the test and ask similar questions.

Good luck!

I could swear that I was also told no calculators. For all of the practice tests and assessments I did I made sure I didn't use a calculator (even for square roots D. However, when I went to sit down at the computer, everyone had a calculator, pencil, and piece of scratch paper.

If you are worried about the calculator though, don't worry. The calculator isn't really needed save for maybe 1-2 questions (the square roots I mentioned above). Other than that they have a lot of tedious addition problems where you have to add up maybe 10 different numbers. The calculator is mainly there for time and convenience.
