Taking pre-reqs at Westchester Community College in NY.

Fall 2009
A & P I with Lab
Nutrition
General Psychology

Spring 2010
A & P II with Lab
Microbiology with Lab
Developmental Psychology - Life Span

Summer 2010
Intro to Sociology
Pharmacology (IF they have a Summer Session)
Bioethics (IF they have a Summer Session)

I already have an Associate's (Business Administration) so I am transferring my English Comp classes. I am trying to eliminate as many pre and co-reqs as possible, so that I can really concentrate on Nursing School. Unfortunately, I am going to have to work full-time and go to school part-time. Plus, did I mention I am a single mom? The good thing is there is A LOT of down time at my job, my boyfriend (live out) is really supportive and my son is in school.

I want to apply to Cochran School of Nursing, Dorothea Hopfer School of Nursing and Westchester Community College RN Program (super competitive! ). I think those are the only 3 Nursing Schools in Westchester County. If I am wrong, please let me know!!!

Excited to have a board to post to!

I'm returning to school for a mid-life career change. I have a B.A. in anthropology so all of my general ed classes are behind me. In the last year, while working full-time and raising my 1 year old son, I've taken A&P 1 and Chem. Here is my upcoming schedule:

Fall 2009

A&P2
Microbiology

Spring 2010
Nutrition
Med Term
(mostly because I want to keep my old student loans in deferment by taking 6 or more units, but also for the knowledge!)

Summer 2010
Nursing Assistant courses

I will be moving to a small rural community in Arkansas (in Hot Springs, right now) to join my fiance where he works, in the spring and plan to attend a local community college, Phillips, in Fall 2010 for my ADN while hopefully working as a CNA for the experience and to pay for school. Eventually, after working afterwards, I would like to take my BA and RN and bridge to a MSN program.

Summer 09
AP1
HUM1101
MAT120
Fall 09
AP 2
General Psychology
CNA (have to have license to put in application)
Spring 10
put in application and patiently wait
I may take Micro just to have a little less to do once I get into the fall nursing classes of 2010.

Hi JasmDasm. Looks like you and I are pretty much taking the same classes this semester at Westchester Community and the exact same ones I want to take in the spring Are you at the main campus or an extension site? I'm going in the evenings for Nutrition and for A&P I'm there all day saturdays. I plan on applying to Dorothea Hopfer and Cochran as well.

Ok, so for some crazy reason I added to my already scary and full schedule-hope to God and I can do it and do it well.

Fall
Anatomy and Physiology 1
Nutrition
Sociology (online)
English and Comp 2 (online)

Spring
Anatomy and Physiology 2
Microbiology
Developmental Psychology-Life Span

Fall '09
A&P I and retaking a comp. pre-req (I took it and got cred/nocred for my bach.)

Spring '10
Either Micro or A&P II

Summer '10
Whichever of the above that I didn't take in Spring

A&P I and the comp class are the only pre-reqs. The other classes are embedded in the NUR program and are the last of non-NUR classes I can take. I've already taken Stat, English, and Psych as well as a number of other classes when I got my B.S. in '03

You know, I will be honest here - when I decided to go for this, it never even crossed my mind that I might not get into school, what with the bad economy and all the people like me who are going back to school. So I am really busting my behind to get all A's and I'm going to study like mad for the TEAS!
Have you taken the Nutrition class already? I know that's one of the pre-reqs...all the online classes were full last time I looked. PHCC is my back-up if I don't get into SPC. Good luck and your concerns are shared!!

Crazy!!! I am taking A&P I and the lab on Saturdays - what time is your class? For Nutrition and Psych, I am going to an extension site Tuesdays & Wednesdays. I wish I could take Intro to Sociology now but, I am afraid its a bit much. Plus, I haven't been in school for 5 years, so I am a little scared about it. Nursing school is super competitive and I want to get good grades. PM me if you want.
