Starting school! very scared!

  1. I have decided to go back to school, and now that it's only 1 week away I am so scared :uhoh21: . I guess i'm scared of failure, of not being good enough. I first have to finish some pre-reqs and then can apply to nursing school. i'm trying to stay positive and thinks about how great it will feel once i am done, but i can't hide the fact that i am freaking out!

I must say it has been great to find this forum, it helps a lot to vent and to have the support of total strangers that want nothing more that for you to succeed.

Being scared can be a good motivator to keep you on your toes, but please don't let it consume you. You can do this!

Now is the time to use your nervous energy to get everything in order. Organize your work area, or your home, or come organize mine. Pack your book bag, make sure you have all of the necessary study items (flash cards are my best friends), and take some time for yourself.

Congratulations on starting school! Don't be afraid. Just get yourself organized and stay focused. Do keep up with your work procrastination and nursing school are not a good mix(learned that one the hard way). Make some friends that will make good study partners. It is also nice to have someone that understands exactly what you are going through to talk to from time to time.

Can you cook dinner while your here?

I know what your saying about the ocd. Are you familiar with your school's campus? I think I memorized where every single classroom was prior to my first day. In fact I'm starting my fourth semester and I still look at that map.

Let me speak from my experience that began exactly one year ago when I decided to get back into school and start completing my pre-reqs, so I (and most of us around here) know how you're feeling. I had finished my B.A. in 2004, and had been out of school for two years so it was a bit intimidating when I realized I had to complete many science courses with labs, compounded with the fact that its quite hard to get into these classes without waitlists at the JCs/CCs in Southern California.

I truly believe that the best thing for anyone in this position is a positive attitude, and taking each semester/term one step at a time. I've been able to do better academically than I ever have before (4.0 in my pre-reqs) because I've taken things one day at a time, utilized all of my resources (classmates, peers, professors, office hours, internet) and kept things in perspective. Its even hard to imagine that this journey (for me) started with one Microbiology class last January.

If you truly are motivated to get into a nursing program and follow this path, you will be surprised at how well you can perform. Good luck! :wink2:

If I can do it, you can do it, too. I was just as scared...now I am almost finished with my prerequisites. You can do anything if you put your mind to it, good luck

I kind of feel this way before every semester and I'm going into 3rd semester of nursing school. I have butterflies right now just thinking of going back next week. It's normal. I started my pre-req's at 28 and thought I'd be the oldest in my classes , I definitely wasn't. I'm now 31 and still feel like I'm going to fail every test and class, luckily I haven't...yet anyway. You have to think about your goals and keep your eye on the prize to succeed. If your heart is in it and if it's what you truly want then you will succeed. Have faith in yourself and you will be fine. Work hard and have fun. Good luck in your pursuits and remember....if we can do it then so can you!

At 28 I am actually one of the youngest in my prereq classes!

Congratulations to everyone reading this going back, you will feel nothing but proud of yourself shortly.

Once you get into the classes and settle into a routine you'll be just fine. Just remember...most of us feel the same way!

I am still scared hehehee... I started in 04 and I am more scared this semester then any other because it is my last semester of pre reqs I have done fantastic up till now and I don't want to blow it on the homestretch so its making me very very nervous, compound that with I am trying to take ap2 and micro together and I keep thinking will I have enough time in the day to do it "all".
