Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone!I am starting my fundamentals of nursing course this week. I have finished my pre reqs for my associates and so I am solely focused on my nursing classes. I am looking for any words of encouragement for a starting nursing student. I am nervous because I want to do well but I have a hard time prioritizing my time. I'm used to my social life and putting that on the back burner is going to be very hard. Any tips or advice would be awesome!

Congratulations! You are about to encounter one of the hardest things you'll ever go through in life. Nursing school is not like regular college. It's very stressful and time consuming. Just take it day by day. Make a calendar of your assignments. Try to study a little bit every day. You have to build a solid foundation to understand the more advanced concepts. So, studying is crucial. To be successful, you can't really make your social life a priority. That doesn't mean that you should never go out or do things anymore, but put in your study time first. Then you can play. Your real friends will understand if you can't make an event and cheer you on. Good luck!!!

You will need to put school first. You worked hard to get where you are, you can't blow it by partying instead of studying. The one thing I found was not to get behind on the massive amounts of reading you will have to do.You will need to set aside time each day with no distractions so you can concentrate.I had a large calendar that had all my assignment due dates on it.

Thank you for the replies! I know I can't make my social life a priority, nor do I plan too. I just want to know I will occassionally be able to manage loads of school work with the occassional night with friends. I guess I will just have to play it by ear. I am excited to start this journey and finally say I have made it to nursing school but I am also super nervous because I want to be successful and give it my all!

TamTam23 you will be successful because you already care!! Like a previous poster said, you've worked tooo hard to not put this first. I know you'll figure out how to spend time with friends and keep NURSING first. I've heard of some people deleting their Twitter and FB accounts for lack of time to spend on them. I for one do not mind deleting these things for a season in my life. Good luck!!! :)

I so agree with you Nurse2b7337 I also deactivated my fb for a season because I have plans bigger then that and I don't want nothing on my way.

Blessedladyb you are one smart cookie! On the flip side at my school I have noticed how different classes have started FB pages of their own. For example Class of 2013 has their own FB page. If a student has a question of any sorts about class work, clinical, etc they post them here and everyone responds with advice or help. This would be the only form of FB activity I would have once in the program. To each his own I've seen ppl balance like no ones bizness and still succeed. It's all about prioritizing!! :)
