SOO UPSET! LVN school wait list

Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am so mad and upset. I just found out that the community college that is the closest to me won't be taking new students until the fall of 2006 from what I understand. And there is already a wait list for that too. I can't find out anything about what classes to take before entering the LVN program that will assist me in having it easier since LVN school is not a breeze from what I have been told. I was seriously considering doing LVN school then taking a year off to get nursing experience and going part time if I could to a LVN to RN program so that it would be easier to apply to RN school since I wouldn't be competing with everyone just other LVNs and be able to work at the same time. It's almost to the point where I may just go to the university close by me and suck it up and have to do student loans and grants and be in the poorhouse for the next four/five years. And even then you have to wait to get in once you finish all of your preqs. I am this close to just giving up being a nurse and just going into teaching. And not to mention all the community colleges around here require different things so I couldn't transfer my classes if I didn't get in the school's program no matter if its LVN or RN and trying to get in the other community college's program. I can't afford a private university since I have been told that if you do it that way there is no wait list. And all the private universities that have a nursing program around here are religious colleges that I know of so I would have to take religion classes of some sort. I am just ranting but other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :crying2:

I know it's frustrating, but if you want to do this bad enough....you'll figure out a way.

When I was trying to figure out what to do, I got out a huge piece of paper and listed the pros and cons for each program I was considering. I wrote everything down and then studied the paper until I figured out which program was going to benefit me the most. Then I applied to that program and waited a very long time (almost 1 full year) to find out if I got in. No matter what, you are probably going to wait. I've only found 1 school around here that has admits every semester (and even then - you might wait as long as 1.5 years to get in there because they only take 10 students at a time).

If the school you apply to requires co-reqs, take those while you are waiting. If they don't, find another class (like medical term.) and take it while you are waiting. Believe me, all of that will benefit you 110% while you are in school. I look an EMT class and I was SO glad because my ADN program whizes through basic vitals and assessments.

Have you thought about taking a CNA class and working as a tech somewhere until you get accepted into LVN or ADN school? Lots of people in my class went that route.

Good luck in whatever you decide, keep your chin up and remember.....the worth wait is always worth it if you want something bad enough!!!

I live in Texas. I didn't know that there are CNAs here in Texas... Hmm I will be doing some research on that since I would love to be able to work and go to school part time. I hear the programs no matter what you do are very hard once you get in and that the courses just fly by. So that concerns me too. But if I had prior experience before doing a nursing program I am sure that would help me so much. Thanks for that suggestion and the encouragement. I am usually a very persistent person when I want something but just have been in shock at the waiting lists.

anything that you learn while you are waiting will benefit you...emts usually have more flexible hours so that you can work while in school if you find that you need too...i believe though that if you are going to be an rn try and get an rn school as soon as possible...you will owe more money when you get out..but you will be better able to pay it back and you will advance quicker and more doors will be open to you

if you find that you will have to wait longer to get into rn school, you can get into a few on line programs...no for credit for most of those schools will not benefit you..but to give you an idea of what you are getting into...you can get a good overview of a/p so that when you go to class you are being thrown to the wolves...and you will be in a class with cnas, lpns, emts, and you will have to keep up...make sure that you are ready
